View Full Version : Looking to get a Parker

Just joined the forum and PGCA as I would like to try a Parker. I want to stick with 12ga. I do reload. I currently have a Ugartechea 30 with third fastener and a T Wild (1894 era) too much drop for me however.
I would like to find one I can shoot skeet with and the occasional pheasant. Recommended models and suggested sellers? So much info it is like drinking from a firehose.
Thanks,
Bob

Robert,
A number of the guys are away from the site while out hunting. Check the section on Parkers for sale to see what is available from the members. My guess is that the members all have their guns for the season and not many will be available. Welcome to the PGCA.

Keep in mind that 2 frame guns which will be most common can be heavy. A nice 1 or 1-1/2 frame will be a lot nicer for hunting and for carrying.

As Brian stated, a 1 or 1 1/2 frame Parker would be easier to carry.
I would suggest a lower grade initially, like a VH or VHE with 28" barrels. Try to find one with 2 3/4" chambers unless you have the ability to load 2 1/2" shells. The later Parkers with fluid steel barrels and 2 3/4" chambers are out there but are a bit harder to find. I have a few 12 ga. Parkers on the 2 frame chambered for 2 1/2" ammo but I shoot standard 2 3/4" ammo all the time as the chambers are stout enough.... BUT I'M NOT RECOMMENDING ANYONE ELSE DO THIS.

Welcome. To get an idea of what a variety you will find in Parkers, I'd suggest going to Gunsinternational.com
Many of our members, who are also dealers in quality guns, list their inventory there.

The best prices and most honestly described Parkers and others for that matter will be available on this site for members to buy. Be patient, or you have described what you want and with luck a member may offer one that he is selling to upgrade to another gun. Don't rush, and don't buy a pig in a poke from a dishonest and overpriced dealer out there, without getting help to avoid that.

If you really want to ease into the water, you can likely find a Trojan 12 ga at a very modest price.

Summing up before I post in the want to buy:
A Trojan or VH, 12ga, 1 or 1 1/2 frame, stock dimensions I am looking for, intended use.
And be patient with best chances after hunting season winds down!

You can post in the “want to buy” forum with your preferences. I personally believe that the D and G grade 12 gauge guns are among the best values in Parkers. You get some lovely engraving and often times very nice wood for only a few hundred dollars more than the V grades.

Depending on your ability to pay, the G and D guns are a great deal. However, if your finances are limited, I would recommend a V grade or Trojan with exceptional condition, the higher the better. High condition V and Trojan guns are the highlights of my collection, and will be in the future.
