Daryl that was a factory Uncle Morris (RST) payload of 7/8 oz of #5 at 1200 FPS, 2 1/2". The gun was the 2 Frame 16 that Mr. Thompson entrusted to me last year with some really tight chokes. Shot was close so not much of a challenge for the combination. I have not hunted turkeys much with a gun for the last 20 years, usually archery hunted. Last year I checked off the 10 gauge with a first, this year the 16, will shoot for the 20 next year.

Well you're an archery hunter so you like the challenge. Let me know when you get to the 28. Then you'll be in the tall cotton.:)

I tried my 28 Repro's MOD barrel a few years back but the big guy busted me at 6 yards and was quickly "gettin' outta Dodge" when I touched off. Head shots are pretty hard on a moving target.

Wish I'd known you were going to use that gun I'd have given you a dozen or so of the 1 ounce tower shoot #6's I shot in the gun .
That long barreled VH 28 gauge 30" oughtta be inline for 2026 then:whistle:

I have some 1 oz loads and honestly have no reason why I did not use them other than I did not think about it. Yes, you are correct in that thinking for 2026 if I can pull off the 20 ga next season.

I've also got several boxes of factory 1 1/8 ounce loads like I shot by mistake last year at the Vintage Cup . :rotf::rotf::rotf:
So if you get a gobble gobble bird with the 28 you need to ponder buying a Parker 410 for the 2027 spring season

Why ponder buying one when the Northern Chapter of the Cartel seems to be accumulating them. Much less expensive to just borrow one. :rotf:

Nice photo! A good Turkey caller can kill then dead with a .410. Just have to get them close. It’s amusing seeing folks shooting a 3.5”
12 for turkeys, compensating for poor calling I guess.

Took the words out of my mouth Reggie. Turkey and waterfowl hunting to me are all about luring them in for a clean kill.

David that bird was all neck. I thought I had finally bagged one of the ever elusive 30 pounders that show up from time to time. Not hardly, just a tad under 24 lbs according to my handheld scale. I've never taken another with girth like that to my recollection.

That’s a great photo of the poor turkey and the gun. I bet he looked like a tank in the field.
