View Full Version : Chuck Bishop and Research Letter Update

Greetings Parker Universe. Chuck fell this morning and broke his hip. He is at the hospital in Harrisburg waiting on surgery. They will either screw his hip back together or perform a total replacement. Keep Chuck and Margaret in your prayers at this time.

That said, Chuck asked that anyone looking to have a research letter done, please hold off on your request for 4 or 5 days until we can decide how we will proceed with the process. All of Chuck's data is on the second floor. He is going to have a little trouble doing stairs for a while. I can do the letters but they need to be stamped and signed by Chuck. Thanks for your cooperation.

Tell Chuck best wishes and I know he will come through this fine. My Grandmother had this surgery done over thirty years ago at age ninty and she came out well complained that her hip was a little stiff for the next twenty years (yes she was 110 when she passed and was still moble!)

I hope he gets the best option in his treatment, but if he gets a replacement, he can join the ranks of Bionic PGCA members...eh, Mike?:)

Heel quickly, Chuck, and know there are lots of people pulling for you!

Better yet Mike, you could go over to Chuck’s house and set up a cot for him up on the second floor…
That way there would be almost no interruption in getting our research letters.

"Almost"? Ha, I've had 5. The hip replacement was a walk in the park. Ok, so it was a slow walk. You will do fine, you're still young!

Just spoke with Chuck a few minutes ago. He really sounded chipper and alert so the meds must have kicked in!! :rotf::rotf: They’ll decide tomorrow how to proceed on the hip.

Dean, I think we’ll just have Chuck stay in our extra room. No stairs, just dogs. That way he can have the puter and printer by his side at all times. 24/7 just as he likes it. He would get to experience real pot pie, crust on top and bottom. Nix besser Chuck!!

Chuck called at 9:00 this morning. Said he had about an hour of sleep between the pain and the constant visits from the nursing staff. The meds were definitely working as conversation was truly interesting. :rotf: They will be doing a partial hip replacement as there was no damage to the acetabulum. He's still waiting for surgery and said he is going to try and get some sleep. I told him not to worry, he's going to get some good sleep when they wheel him into surgery and that chicks dig scars.  :)

Chuck, get well soon. I have had two hip replacements, both intact after many years. The replacement surgery was uneventful as was the healing. Unfortunately, I don't take to physical therapy very well. I hope your recovery is as easy as mine was. Murphy

Update, Chuck called at 8:40. They took him in for surgery at 3:30. He’s up in his room and ate some supper. He’s having ice cream now. 😎 They’ll probably have him up and walking this evening. Doc told him probably 3 weeks until he can really start getting around. He’s definitely feeling his anesthesia. Really fun to talk to him right now.

First, thanks for your prayers and concerns for my health. I'm getting better. Everyone asks me how I fell so here's how it happened. I was making eggs and bacon. I took drink and accessories into the family room, and had to get back to the stove quickly. The family room floor is about 8 to 10 inches below the kitchen floor and the rest of the first floor rooms. I was going too fast and my lead foot didn't clear the kitchen floor riser and down I went! My wife was in the basement directly below me. Said it sounded like a bomb going off. Couldn't get up off the floor so we called the ambulance. They decided to do a partial hip replacement. Pain is much better so far today. In hospital for rehab. Please hold off on the letter requests till I give the all clear.

Home at last! I hope I don't see the inside of a hospital again for a very long time. I want to thank everyone for their messages of prayer and support. It means a lot. I don't want to spend too much time sitting in front of the computer at this time but I can do, with the help of Man of the Mountain, a few letters per day. If you haven't gotten a letter you requested, just let me know at pgcaresearch1@gmail.com.
Thanks,

Well, it's obvious to me that I won't be able to make the Southern shoot this year. First one I'll miss in about 16 years. I am hoping to make an appearance at the other shoots starting in June. I'm doing the PT faithfully but progress is slow. Pain comes and goes but at least I am sleeping good at night with out pain.

No problem doing letters so send them to me. Thanks to Mike K. for helping out.

Chuck, I'm sorry to learn you won't be able to make the Southern, but your recovery is most important now. As a hip replacement veteran, I know that sleeping well and without pain is a big deal in your recovery. The PT discomfort and feeling of slow progress is, unfortunately, part of the process. In a year, you won't believe how much better you feel...and beyond that, you'll wake up some morning and note that your "fake" hip works so much better that the original part.

I'll miss seeing you. Take care,

Garry

Chuck, so sorry to hear about your fall and injury. It’s great you are doing well. My wife had a hip replacement last June. First month was difficult. After two months she was back to her line dancing. Hang in there , you will be fine.
