“probably not safe to shoot in its current condition“ - understating the obvious

It is amazing to see what is done to the barrel set when a burst occurs under the rib like that and imagine the forces involved to blow the ribs off and spread the tubes apart like that.

Here's the link to the gun in this discussion.

Interesting failure on this one for sure. I wonder what the full story is on this one. Based on the pictures & lack of information, I wouldn't try speculating on the cause of the failure.

As far as the auction goes, my question is: What's a parts gun worth these days?

"Probably not safe to shoot". Sounds like this ad was written by the Babylon Bee.

Mighty thin barrel wall at the rupture site--my calibrated eyeball says .015 if that. Notice how the buttstock looks virtually new, and the action and barrels (before the split) look remarkably newish as well. Of course, the fore end doesnt match either by number or condition. More value, I would guess, as a parts gun than as a base for a re-barrel and fore end replacement. Too bad.

SN 123268, sold for $495 on Feb. 6, 2024. There was only one bid.

I intended on placing a bid, but forgot about it. I felt it was worth that to buy for parts. Just barely.

I'm with Mike. There is no ring bulge as one would expect with an obstruction, and the wall is VERY thin, as is the muzzle of the ? R barrel

Thin wall burst are often splits, but can look like the lid of a can after a can opener
