Seller claims stock is factory. At first I thought it had a comb added to it but now I am not so sure. The shield does appear to be there when I blow the first picture up. Grain of wood and fit to metal and butt plate seem correct. Serial number is in 96xxx range, an early VH. Thoughts?

Possible restock (factory or other). Looks like a fine stock though.
I have a monte carlo on my trap VHE (looks very similar to this one). She went back to the factory in 1918 for it.
A letter would be helpful, just like always.
My bet is factory restock.

I wouldn't doubt it for a second. I've seen a few original VH's with the raised or "monte carlo" stock.

The gun looks clean, seller says it is tight and mechanically right in all ways. Forend checkering is worn but not too badly, screws look to be OK. 30" bbls, F/F, 14 5/8" LOP, 2 5/8" DAH, 1 1/2" DAC. They want $2999. Be good to know if serial # is stamped on the wood under trigger guard.

Gun is too long for me and if original I could NOT have it shortened. Bill Janelle could probably shoot it OK, he needs to be on oxygen when he stands up straight.

Sorry to hear about Bill. He seemed well at the New Year's Day shoot.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh....that was a joke Dean, about Bill's height, ya know the need for oxygen above 10,000 ft. He has got the build for shooting such a long LOP.

Suponski's at a Yankees game tonight. He and Danny took the "Yankee Clipper" to the Big Apple for the game.

Sorry about having to cancel your appointment yesterday afternoon Mr. Romig. Did you fill your prescription for amber liquid? I hope you took it as directed...1 glass every hour...until it didn't matter what these guy's said...

I hope we can reschedule that appointment very soon..as we shouldn't let this malady linger too long...It will not get better with time....

There was a very nice VHE 20 ga. with a Monte Carlo stock at the Chantilly VA show this weekend. Everything looks original; gun has been on this dealer's table for several shows now; asking price @ 5.500. Can't get close to an upland bird gun with a MC; sorry!

As I recall, about four years ago Mr Dunkle brought one to the Southern. It was a small bore VH in either 20 or 28 ga. with 30" barrels and a Monte Carlo stock. The stock appeared to be original in my opinion.

JB, I have a GHE with the same stock, with 32" barrels, 12ga but straight stock it is original. That is the second or third one I have seen.

This gun has been for sale for this long and no one has ordered a letter?

The gun is not in the records. I requested info from Mark months ago.

Is the checkering angle 37^? I'm thinking that was the standard angle for Parker checkering at that time according to all the patterns I have in my checkering box. Just a thought, Jerry
It sure appears to be factory work. Would love to see a real clear close up picture of the mullering. Jerry
