Vet called yesterday and confirmed She has Lymphoma, We will have her at the oncologist Tuesday at 8:15 Am, She will do a whole body scan, to see how far along the Cancer is, and possible treatment, Treatment would be a VT vet school, We are hoping she can be treated, She just turned 10 yrs old, she seems outwardly to be fine, but she has slowed down, we pray she will be OK, but her quality of life is the main thing. She knows I believe, you can see it in those big brown eyes! Sometimes I believe she can read my mind! Gary

Gary, I'm so sorry to read this. We just lost our Alder to the same cancer. I hope the best for your pup, and that you get many more days with your girl.

Yes, they can certainly read our minds. Best of luck Gary!
Is she the one that ate my check to you for that sweet D Lifter or was that Maddie?

Bummer. Our 11 yr old "Daisy" is slowing down dramatically. Tough decisions in my future. As a Vet friend of mine advised "Make sure the dog is still having fun being a dog." Good luck

So sorry to hear Gary.

We are in a similar situation with our 13 year old springer, Jasper.

I fear that difficult decision will have to be made soon.

Sorry to hear Gary, my Benny is 11 now ,got the summer after dad passed and we all swear it's his reincarnation...but this year he's gotten fat and narrow in the face ,he's old - my hunting partner and myself have wondered what the hell were going to do without him ,a machine in the country if he cant find a grouse close he'll find him 600 yrds out, just has no quit and hold tight until i get there...and in the same breath a lap dog in the house...but hes on the obvious downward slope now ,I'll retire him from the big days this fall i think ,the young dogs will have to sort it out ,we'll see how it goes ,I've owned enough to know it'll work out,I won't like it one bit ,no sir not one bit - but we were designed to live longer , the bittersweet fact of dogs and men .
You guys might remember the day I brought him home ,there's pics here somewhere .
Best of luck with your pup Gary

Gary, I have lost many of my four-legged companions over the years and it never gets any easier. I have been told by many, and I know they are correct, that you do what is best for your dog. Common sense combats emotions. Best wishes.

Gary,

As I mentioned above, that time has come for my wife and me and we let Jasper go today. We're both shook but we'll manage with time.

It won't be easy as you already know. And many more of us know that too.

All the best to Miss Jolie, and you and your family.

May our 4 legged friends Rest In Peace.

Bill, heart felt sympathy to you and your wife, It never gets any easier, At 8:00 AM today we were at the Virginia Tech canine cancer center for Jolies first appointment after evaluation she will get her first Chemo shot, we were told either way she had around 10 months left, If she handles it well, fine if not I do not want the cure to be worse than the cancer, we will have to make that call sometime in the future, The Doc did say that they usually go into remission after the first dose, but only for a short time. So we will give our girl much love and attention while we can. will keep you all advised as it plays out, Gary

It isn't easy, is it?

And indeed, give your girl much love and attention and a prayer or two also.

Thanks, and keep us posted.

Gary,
Prayers for you and Jolie. We all do what we can do for our pups in hopes that it will make their lives better. Right now I'm dealing with my 13+ year old lab Parker who is struggling with age related loss of his hind end. I know my decision is coming in the near future. They are truly the most wonderful creatures God has put on this earth for us humans.

Bill,
My condolences to you and yours.

Everyone who has a pet now....take a moment to scratch them behind the ears and look them in the eyes. They'll know what you mean.

Something about Labs, as was said here they seem to know what we’re thinking… and I believe they truly have that sense.
This is Tobie, our chocolate lab who lived to 14 years plus. This pic was taken about a year before we (Kathy and me) had to make that awful decision to put her down… congestive heart failure.
She would often do things we were about to ask of her, but she beat us to it… she just somehow knew.
She was Kathy’s dog right from the start - she knew it, Kathy knew it and I knew it.

Heartbreaking to let them go… we’re so damn lucky to have had them in our lives.
