Ran across this listing. Low starting price.

Appears to be a "Black Widow" model. Look at picture 5. It has the special order fore end latch and front swivel attachment.

Wow. I'm sitting on a gold mine. I have a bunch of guns with 'Brown Wood'.

Looks like a "trade branded" version of H & R's lower priced gun the "Bay State" --

Hopefully Doc Drew will be along to tell us what business used that Invincible name.

I didn't notice that. I feel sorta bad now. The first shotgun I bought for myself was a Bay State when I was around 12. I picked it out of the barrel of $5 single shots in a country store (try that now). It was a 16 gauge and I needed to make a new opening lever. I used a 20 penny nail from the hardware store (right diameter for the shaft) using a hammer, vice, hacksaw, file and torch. I used it for several years and helped decimate the local rabbit population. It started me on a life of working on guns and loving 16gauge shotguns. I could buy any shotgun I want now, but they likely wouldn't affect my life like that old Bay State from a wooden barrel.

I just refurbished a Bay State 16 gauge and was surprised to see virtually the same legend on the top of the barrel. It was surprising to see all of the original case color under all the “patina” (crud)

I must say, that wing nut on the sling swivel band is a nice touch.

I’m surprised the wing nut is not engraved but maybe that level of embellishment is for the next higher grade.

Janney Semple Hill & Co., Minneapolis sold an Invincible H&R (and maybe an IJ) tradename single, an Invincible Belgian tradename double, and a Rapid Fire Steel Choke Bored Invincible single (which may have been a Davenport)

Art I like reading your recounting of how your love affair began. I like you remembering your roots and respecting and recognizing what that gun did for you.

A corn Crib gun for sure, probably worked well keeping the critters away, Gary
