Not fine and not a double

Winchester 37 single shot. Someone said they eject the shell when opened whether it's fired or live. Never shot one; is this right?

I bought one new in the early 1960s when in high school with money from mowing lawns
12 b 30" barrel and full choke very nice until I fired it with a trap load. Quickly decided it needed a recoil pad which helped a little but not much
on the shelf with it at the hardware store was a new Model 12 28 inch barrel with modified choke but I was a poor teenager
I do not remember an un-fired cartridge being ejected

There are other American made singles that eject when opened, fired or not. The Iver Johnson Special Trap is one. Vent rib, 32" barrel and, usually, nicer wood than the Champions.

The Model 37 is reload sensitive because there is no camming action to start the ejection process, only the ejector spring. Great gun otherwise.

I agree with Bill , Great Guns , I shot my first Grouse with my Grand Dads Model 37 Red Letter ! I inherited it and still carry it at times and yes it still ejects whether fired or unfired shells ! Still kicks as hard as when I was 12 years old ,didn't seem to bother me for the last 55 years but for some reason I am starting to notice that again !:rotf:
