This 1894 Remington was a sleeper on GB. My only competition was MikeeJ99, the plaid cloth fellow in Kansas. The bidding ended on a Sunday and think he was asleep at the switch, for which I am grateful.
A 1907 “BE” Grade with 30” Damascus barrels. Semmer’s says that it was the last ‘94 made that year. I’m not sure how he determined his figures.
The unusual feature are the checkered cheeks, not customary for “B” guns. The front bead and mid-bead could be ivory.
The bores are immaculate and luckily the barrels don’t require any professional help. The LOP is 14-1/4” over a leather faced red Silver pad with a “widow’s peak” (Neidner) spacer. Choked a bit tighter than Modified with my simple bore gauge. The BB counts on the rear lug are 365 and 360, I like those numbers.
So, after taxes and shipping a pretty decent find for $977. MikeeJ99 bid up the opening of $800 by $59. My bid of $864 stuck. I’d do it again. I’m just really glad those checkered cheek panels weren’t hiding something ugly because the auction photos were really poor. It was listed as a “no returns” item and whew, lucked out again!

In Chapter XVII of Semmer’s book he mentions the “OC” Doubles. One particular stamp was to blame for the “typos”. He says the oddity occurs in ‘98, ‘07 and ‘10 guns. Said he hasn’t seen many and considers them scarce. Check the photo.

It’s only leather covered on the butt end, not the sides. Looks like pig skin.

The only wear I see is from open and closing. You can usually see a ring from the primer wearing the breech face…nada.

That is refered to as a leather-faced pad. I’d leave it as is.

Morris Baker has kept Burt Spiller’s VH 20 all original. The leather-faced pad is terribly deteriorated… but it’s original.

Very nice. Remington 94s were some of the finest guns produced in America and you found a gem. Good shooting.

Nice looking gun. How does this go under the radar on gunbroker?

Poor photography and minimal description, “mostly gun metal gray”.
Coupled with a no return policy it was a lucky gamble on my part. Their feedback was rated “A” though digging a little deeper there were plenty of disgruntled customers.
Online sales open the door for legal thievery. Villains running roughshod.
“Caveat emptor”.

What a great find! Congratulations on a great deal.

While no Remington Hammerless Double production records have been found at "The Arms" the late Charles Semmer assembled his serial number chronology for his book Remington Double Shotguns from surviving shipping records.

Here are the 1907 Remington Arms Co. catalog pages for the B-Quality guns --

117780

117781

Your leather-faced recoil pad looks just like the one I suspect to be original on my circa 1905 DEO-Grade 16-gauge --

117782

I have an early BE-Grade 12-gauge that has the Chain J Damascus barrels as shown on the Remington Damascus sample.
