Gentlemen,

I’m making up 16ga 2.5” bismuth loads for pressure/velocity testing.

This is my first experience with roll crimping. The plastic seems to be rolling over nicely and is touching the over shot card. No movement of the shot etc when I shake the shell.

Any advice concerning how to make or check the roll crimp would be very welcome!

Best,
Brett

Thanks for the replies. I’m brand new to roll crimping.

I included the recipes I used, below. I do not know if they are safe, the pressures/velocity they will produce. Again, I’m sending them for testing.

Best,
Brett

Please report if you can.
I found that roll crimping with what used to be called butchers wax as lube works a charm. I can run the drill press quite fast with it and it just spins down the crimp effortlessly. if you have to ride the hull to press it you can fatigue the rolled portion of the shell which isnt ideal, especially in the long run. Yours look just fine as is so good going.
Hull conditioning for reloading is an ongoing learning curve for me.

Aaron,

Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll try that!!

I’ll report back here with the results. It will take a bit as I have to ship the shells via an FFL due to California state law.

Best,
Brett

They look good. Clean and even roll crimps. Looking forward to the results of the pressure tests.

The only thing I see bad of these are there is no info on the overcard .:)

Thank you edgar. I got some years ago from BPI but they quit selling them. My #8 was worn out. I'll give them a try. Brett, you don't need any advice on doing a roll crimp, yours look about perfect. I don't load either of your powders but if they are listed with using fold crimps you have nothing to worry about. A roll crimp like yours will have less pressure than a fold crimp.
