hello all.we stopped in at the shot tower museum on the way home. it's off the
hiway at Austinville Va. luckily we arrived close to noon on sat.turns out thats when the site opens for entrance to public. the ranger operating it was a huge
source of info. very nice and was patient with all my tech questions. tower is 75 ft tall. there were 77 steep steps to the top.whew!. turns out there is also a hole dug 75 ft down, so lead drops 150 ft total. guide says this is the sweet spot for manufacture. didnt realize how work intensive this process is. a plaque spoke of the workers adding arsenic to make lead flow better thru the sieves. was worth every penny of the 7 dollar parking fee.

We saw that on the way down. And on the way back. We meant to try and stop. But forgot about it. Cool!

Pre Covid, My wife and I would go into NYC for a Yankees game and a play. We always parked in New Haven and took the train in. My wife knew I always sat on the north side of the car so I could see the UMC- Remington Shot tower, Dave Suponski and I used to muse about turning it into a museum. I heard it was finally torn down.

The Remington Shot Tower in Bridgeport is still standing. It is/was being developed by the city. Recent news came out about the rest of the Remington-UMC buildings being torn down. The end of that era forever.
