Ran across a Superposed I really liked, made in 1962 same as me, so no salt worries, etc. Seemed to be in excellent shape, although it appears to not be original butt pad.
Talked them down to a price I liked, and she'll be here next week.
A few blemishes here and there, but overall a very nice gun it appears....
26.5" Sk/Sk choked.

Great find. It's an itch I can't seem to scratch because I want a specific gun and the ones I've seen are over priced or in poor condition. Is that a 12g? I got impatient and just bought a 4 barrel Citori Skeet set almost NIB from the 70's with 28" tubes. Brownings never get tiring.

Yes, it's a 12ga. I would have loved to find a 20ga similar to this one, but the price doubles at min. I wanted a close cover, skeet gun with round knob stock. Preferably a 1950's or presalt 1960's gun. I was happy with the price I paid for it.

Joe, there are RKLT 20s out there if you keep your nose to the ground. Andy, I shot a Citori 4 barrel set in NSSA competition for years and loved it until I discovered the 3200 Remington. I "gave" the Browning to one of the young boys who worked at our club, PG Trap and Skeet in MD. I lost track of his NSSA exploits, but would like to have that great gun back. It's probably sitting in a closet of his million dollar mansion. You know how young boys progress as the years go by.

Yea, I am always looking... I didn't wake up yesterday thinking I was gonna buy a Superposed, but ran across that one and it set off my bells & whistles in what I wanted in one, if I was to buy a 12ga gun.
I've got a Sabatti made Remington Premier 20ga O/U sitting in the safe I really like, if the itch to use a 20ga O/U hits me, before I find the right Superposed..... I think if I get a 20 though, it's gonna have to be at least a pigeon grade, so that may be a while. :D

A 12 will kill birds and break clays just fine, and in style when it looks like that new gun.

Joe, a Pigeon Grade 20 would be a great find and a great addition to your collection. Conversely, I have restricted my Superposed collection to harder to find early post war and prewar Grade 1s. Lots of variety and less cost. It took me many years to find a RKLT .410 with 28" field choked barrels in mint condition. But now I have one. My other Grade 1s were a little easier to find, but very satisfying.

I've always been a "field grade" sort of guy, becuase I buy them to shoot as well as to have a nice assortment of guns.....
My Dad had a 20ga Pigeon Grade, I always loved just looking at it, and while I know there are fancier guns, it's always sort of been another itch I want to scratch, someday maybe I'll run across the right gun, at the right price when I have the change in my pocket to do so. :D That said, the just right G1 field gun would not upset me. hahahaha

One of my great finds was at a Baltimore auction house, a 1932 Midas trap with 32" barrels and factory beavertail forend and single trigger. The gold wire was restored by Thierry Duguet and the woodwork was done by Greg Wolf.

I don't ever remember seeing a Midas grade from that Era..... I am sure it's a beauty....

Returned from Southern Side X Side Sunday and went searching for a Pigeon Grade 28 gauge, skeet and skeet, with 28 inch barrels, no luck. Superposed are my favorite shotgun.
Several very nice B -25s and one cased Superposed with 3 barrel was interesting but none made the trip home in my car.
Great buy and enjoy your Superposed I hope it's the first of many more.

Unfortunately, graded Supers with smallbore 28" barrels are priced in multiples of Grade 1 prices. We should have bought them when they were being made. I haven't found a reasonably priced RKLT 28 gauge with 28" field choked barrels yet, after decades of searching.

Here's what they look like. Unfortunately, my pictures are not very good, but you get the idea. This is my first year Midas with 30" barrels with the stepped rib.

And here's a nice little popper that just showed up today on GI. If someone wanted a good 20 gauge this would fit the bill and these are good people to deal with too.

Me too Mr. D.
I found this '66 28 gauge, 28", **$/**$ in Idaho last month.
I think it's got at least Diana grade wood.

I saw that one yesterday, "Insect Damage" to butt plate..... Never seen that before, didn't know insects would chew on a hard butt plate....

BTW, picked up the 12ga Superposed on Monday, and very happy with it. It does not appear to have been shot much at all.
Now.... My long term plan is my new grabdson, born very early tuesday morning will one day be the owner of this gun. The trigger guard has the initials RLM in gold on it. Is there a way a person can get rid of those, and maybe have my Grandson's initials put there in their place???

Worm holes.
Typical on horn butt plates

This is the Trigger guard, any way to reasonably remove these initials, and maybe replace them with my Grandson's?
If not, I guess I will tell him that RLM stands for Really Love Mom. :rotf:

Bill, Love that early Midas! I am shooting a first year 20 gauge grade one now. Built in 1949,the first year for 20 gauges. These early superposed were so much better built than the later guns. The early guns are lighter and better balanced. My 28" 20 weighs just 6-3 and has the slim grip and forend typical of the pre 1955 guns.

John, what is the serial number of your first year 20? Mine is #605. No information on my gun from Browning. I would try to get info from FN is I knew how. My #605 is mint and may be unfired. It is 28", solid rib, modified and full. I bought it off the rack at Albright's in Easton.
