What a difference 5 yards make, shooting 1 oz 7 1/2 shot at 25 then 30 yards. Left barrel was similar. .022 choke in right barrel, .026 in left. 30” circle on plate.

Here's my 28ga repro Q1 .004 18yds 26" spread with Winchester AA Super Sport 3/4 oz 7 1/2. Same load at 23 yards opens to 36".

Oberfell and thompson's study showed a 10% decrease in pattern density for every 5 yards between 25 and 50. This was so consistent that some gurus recommend patterning at 30 yards and just calculating the pattern at 40. Thus, a 70% pattern at 30 is a 50% pattern at 40, or IC.

This is the right barrel of Remington 1894 10 gauge with the 19 gr of Red Dot load, 1 1/8 oz #6. 93% at 40 yards. If I had held 2 inches lower it would have been about 96%. In theory it could be shooting mid 70% at 50 yards. It's been a great gun in the field and my go to 10 gauge for waterfowl.
