Due to the high cost of T. matrix shells, would it be feisable to lenghten the 2-3/4 inch 20 gauge chambers of my reproduction to 3 inch. I have the standard 26 inch barrels with imp/cyl-modified chokes. Its my understanding the reproductions can be used with steel shot with open chokes. I was told that the 20 gauge 28 inch barrels come with 3 inch chambers standard. Are the the 26-28 inch barrels the same diameter and thickness? I do not want to beat up the gun, but get more use out of it for close range waterfowl. I know that the 3 inch steel loads are not the best for ducks, but I want to use the reproduction more in the field. Thanks BW.

My 20 ga. Repro two-barrel set, 26" and 28" heve 3" chambers in both sets of barrels. I'm sure it would not compromise the barrels at all.

I understand that Repros have plating in the bores. In other guns, like Berettas, grinding out the plating allows rust to invade the bore. However, Repros are commonly ground out in the choke area and I haven't heard any complaints of rust. Maybe the basic unplated steel is not prone to rust. The degree of choke in 28" Repro barrels is not conducive for use with steel shot. Murphy's Law enters this discussion when we consider that the 26" barrels have short chambers and the 28" barrels have too much choke. Personally, I don't try to make every gun do every job. I would rather buy another gun.
