I searched for topics on the question below hypothesizing about bore diameter on Remington-made CrMo barrels. I found none.

I have found multiple examples where bore diameter in CrMo barrels have been significantly larger than nominal. My examples are mostly 16 gauge and have measured at .675-.680 (nominal is .665). I am not talking about the gradual taper from Chamber/FC. My measurement for the bore is taken at 9" from both muzzle and breech. Chamber, FC, Chokes seem to be unaltered.

Have others found this to be true of the Remington-made CrMo barrels?

Best - Dean

My December 1940 VHE 16-gauge shows the same, .675" .677".

Thanks Dave.

The Remington chrome-moly barrels seem to have a couple iterations. Besides the ones which bores measure larger, I also have a couple which measure near the nominal bore size.

- 1936 DHE 16 gauge measures .665 or what we would expect
- 1936 GHE 20 gauge which measures .620 or close to nominal (.615)

I have a June, 1939 GHE 16 that measures .670 in each barrel.

James,

To clarify, these are Remington made guns with chrome-moly barrels?

Thank You!

Yes, VHE is # 240845 ,GH is a 1899 gun that was sent back to Remington-Parker and had 1/2 frame barrels on it. It was a 1 frame Damascus. No writing on the rib of either gun.
