I am about to attempt the installation of a top lever spring (a Dixie Gunworks replacement) on a 1 1/2 frame gh. Any advice would be appreciated. I actually own a copy of the "firearms assembly/disassembly, Part V" that the FAQ refers one to. However, the author seems to have skipped discussion of this spring entirely.

Thanks in advance!

Is it the flat spring or the later coil spring?

Sorry, it is the flat spring (1896 manufacture).

Search previous post as we have gone over this before. I would do it but have to run...

I looked back to 12/08 and didn't find the information on the forum, I don't know how to search the forum, other than just looking, but even that information would help.

Did you click on the "Search" tab at the top of the page and type in a keyword?

Thanks Dean, I'm getting a little slow in my old age, and although I looked for it, I didn't see the tab. I have found it now (thanks to you). I will go try it out.

I found Harry's post from November. They will be very helpful in this operation.

Thanks to all!

i also just ordered a top lever spring from dixies, and reshaped it and installed it myself. so i know what to expect. i used a mini ruler to measure the inside of the spring positions, and compared it to the original, the problem i had was the broken part of the original was lost.
i posted pictures on my thread *to restore or not to restore*

im happy to say my rifle works like a charm

Thanks Kris, I don't have an old spring to work from, it is totally missing. I will just try measuring it with the the engineer's scale on my calipers, and work it down slowly. I will also go check out your thread.

Paul make sure you file or grind the long way on the spring, crossways will score it and cause it to break. and don't overheat it. good luck
