Guys- Check out this Parker 12 gauge GH up for auction at the end of the month at Amoskeag. I was in Manchester today and stopped by to look at the offerings. This gun looks nice, but the case colors are not nearly as vivid as they show up in the pictures.

I can't believe that rib. What do you guys think? If I found that gun in a gun show, I would have to go out for a drink.

Well, they state the rib was engraved. The question would be why.

I don't know why. All I know is that it was done at the factory. I've never seen another one on that low a grade of gun that wasn't a vent rib. OK, let me know if I'm wrong. George, I'll be eager to see you at the show this weekend. You will love our display. OK, guys, you heard it here. George and I went to high school together and we are still neighbors.

Hang tag says chamber lengthened on 3/11/63, by who, Remington, DelGrego? I wonder if the barrels were refinished and the stamping on the rib was polished off enough that someone felt chasing it or retoring via engraving was a good idea? Who knows.
Bill why are you sure it was done at the factory?

Pete, it just looks great. If it was done outside of the factory, I have some work for that guy.

Well Runge worked at Remington and DelGrego after that.

The case colors look like an extremely well executed cyanide job.

So, our task gentlemen, is to discover if there are Remington date codes stamped into the barrel flats. It wouldn't prove anything but it sure would add to our cumulative speculation.
I agree with Chris T. on the case colors and who did them better than Remington?
As for the rib engraving... I've seen rib engraving on two CH guns in the past year that were definitely not original Parker Bros. Acme Steel barrels but the engraved legend on the rib proclaimed they were... and it was as well executed as Parker Bros would have done it. This is not to say that these barrels are not original Parker Bros. "Special Steel" but simply adding a bit of spice to the discussion.

Yes, barrel flat pictures would tell us something.

I will be going back to Amoakeag before the auction and can check and report on that. Probably the middle of next week.

This auction has quite a few other Parkers and doubles in general. Here is the main link in case anyone wants to check out the offerings.

Just to add a little more information to the discussion, I am in process of writing an article for Parker Pages that will cover the last damascus Parkers. In it, I will cover my like new damascus GH, serial 220657, that may be the last damascus GH (or any grade) as the whole barrel logo is hand engraved. I have surmised that Parker's roll die for damascus guns became damaged or lost by 1927 and thus, the hand engraving. Larry jr. and his father both examined the gun and described it as an unfired original.
