There are two guns that were on my 2023 bucket list, both Parkers. One will remain nameless until I have it, the other arrived Thursday. The big bore craze took hold of me and I finalized a deal that was begun October-November of 2022. I finally have a 1908 PH 8 bore, 34” and just over 12 lbs!! CPG, twist bbls, solid gun that originally sold in 1908 for $105. I am very happy and thank my buddy Craig for his help in making this happen! Big Boomer events just got another competitor!!

Nice gun. Bring it to the Southern. We plan to have another 8ga get together and 5 stand shoot off on Friday. Shooting an 8 puts a big smile on your face, big fun.

That's the plan. :) Just need to load up some shells so I have enough to bring along. Roll crimper is coming as well as overshot cards. Also have a punch coming to make wads and cards.

Always good to have a nice, new toy to play with over these winter days. That one looks like fun.

I try to stay away from guns that weigh more than I do.

Maybe we can talk Daryl into doing a 8ga only class at the Bo Whoop.

Not a problem sir ! I’m sure it’s in good hands . To me the coolest thing about that gun were the letter instructions saying shoot buckshot close , it was ordered by a lumber company in the pan handle of FL I assume for gators . A pic of the gun with a small six pointer it ran into a couple seasons ago .

Way to go Mike,
Welcome to the 8 gauge club, hopefully we can keep growing the 8 gauge group and have 8 gauge awards at all the shoots. We appreciate the event put together for 8 gauges at Rock Mtn,
Stan

I’ve talked to the new Presidente of the Vintagers about an 8 gauge event at the Vintage Cup this year but more folks need to let them know they’d like it as well

I’d like input from all you 8 bore guys. Is the 15 bird event enough or should we make it 25 or 30? If we bump up the target count I’m thinking maybe shooting the event on the course instead of the 5-Stand. Thoughts?

At Warrington SC the 5 stand works me . They’ve got some Hemingway-Koneski long ball targets on the 5 -stand . I’d think 25 or 30 is sufficient .

The buckshot close comment reminded me of an article about a bear hunter in I believe from Alaska. He was known to build a log bear trap and had ordered a Parker with instructions to pattern it for "buckshot close". Nothing more to the story but interesting that yours may have been for gators. Charlie, can you add to this discussion since you seem to be one of the most knowledgeable on the big guns?

I think 25 or 30 is probably enough targets to swing these big guns for. I would be open to trying them on the course, see if guys like it, if it isn't what guys prefer, we go back to the 5-Stand the following year.

I must say having all the 8 bore guys together on the 5-Stand does add to the excitement of shooting these big guns that may be lost by each guy shooting individually out on the course?

I prefer the 5-stand set-up for the reasons Stan states above, everyone shooting together adds to the excitement and camaraderie. We are able to take group pictures and admire all the big shoulder cannons. I think the 5 stand environment is more friendly to new commers. 25 targets would be better than the current 15 in my opinion. Mike we all appreciate your efforts organizing the 8ga shoot.

Unless someone discovers an 8ga made by Fox we can't really include them in the BoWhoop but I'd be willing to set up a side game for you 8ga junkies and have a little fun competition there. It will be like shooting Annie Oakley or handicapped trap from the 32yd line. Show me the interest in participation and it will be done.:)

I think this is probably the most interest in the 8 ga in over a 100 years...its a fun gun but because of it s size and weight it aint for everyone but its awesome....I think like craig and the others 25-30 will be enough...some of you guys take some pictures for the rest of us who can t make it to the shoot....I m anixios to get it on....I would love to try a bear or a gator with a parker 8 ga.....charlie

The size of the gun I don’t think turns folks off as much as trying to get tooling and components to load got the darn things . I would not buy the first until I was sure I could get a press hulls and components .

Another 0 frame 16 most likely.

A John Deere Model B for my son.

Another Parker 28, but that is kind of a dream.
