Woke up to this today. It was 45 years ago today that the worst blizzard in Indiana history hit us..Bought this 22 acres that joins our farm. Hills and hollers..and a little pond..Couldn't resist the scenery of Mother Nature...

I remember that storm 45 yrs ago--I was still in school at Ohio State and it shut us down. It also gets blamed for wiping out the quail population in Ohio. You must be in southern Indiana, the terrain there much like ours in SE Ohio.

We used to lose power in town, even with underground service in our entire area. Built a new house on 30 acres on the edge of town with a lot of trees etc. We were tied to Nat Gas there so we decided to never suffer through that again. Installed a 22 kW Generac fueled by natural gas and an auto switchover system. With gas heat, it is big enough to run our entire home summer or winter. Paid $6500 installed with a 10 year unlimited warrenty. Pay $150 a year for factory service rep and remote monitoring and never know when a power outage occurs. The price of one moderate shotgun completely eliminated one of life's major worries. Some of the best money I ever spent.

I'm in NE Arkansas...just below Missouri border. Lived in Brazil, Indiana growing up. Dad was Sheriff there..

I remember the winter of 77-78 in Eastern KY. We were building a new house in a subdivision on a hill. Talked the roofers into working to finish the roof on Thanksgiving morning in77 because we were expecting snow later.Had the drywall and supplies, the insulation and the flooring delivered on Friday morning. It snowed for 3 or 4 days after that and it was the end of January before anything but big 4x4's made it back into theneighborhood. Never saw the ground during the whole period.

Harold, I was at Ohio State at the same time. Ohio State even cancelled classes for a couple days, which resulted in a world class two day party on my dorm floor on South Campus! Then we were able to make our way to the South Campus party store to restock! Who'da thought a college area party store would be open during such a period....

I just threw the "I survived the Blizzard of '78 at Ohio State" t-shirt out a few years ago!
