Was there a thread a while back about whether damascus guns had a steel bottom rib or a damascus one? I do not recall the results of that thread if there was one.

That could have been the one but I'm not sure. I think there was some discussion about the percentages of steel versus damascus bottom ribs. Thanks John.

I have no idea of percentages one way or the other. Of the three Damascus Parkers I've owned two have Damascus top and bottom ribs (a GH and a Grade 3 Hammer) and the other is DH #155290 has a Damascus top rib and a fluid steel bottom rib as shown below:

My 1889 vintage Grade 2 has a Damascus bottom rib.

"Shown below" seems to be a Damascus rib rather than a fluid steel rib as you describe it.

No Bill, if you're seeing a Damascus pattern you are either seeing some Damascus reflection off the barrels or you're imagining things. This gun has been looked at by more seasoned Parker nuts than myself and all have determined that it's a steel bottom rib. Not visible to the naked eye, but through magnification some micro-pitting can be detected that may be throwing you off.
