Well I'm thinking nine of the 50 bird events , the 8 gauge event , the SBT course event , and the main event 575 or so targets . That oughtta be enough :rotf:

Trying to cut back on guns to drag along as well ! An 8 a pair of 10’s a 12 a 16 a 20 an SBT and two semi’s . Nine is plenty , ain’t no more of those days like the first couple shooting trips to Sanford having 20+ to load and unload each day . Hey following the same idea I oughtta be able to do Sanford with an 8 maybe a pair of 10’s a 12 a 16 and a 20 for six or maybe five

The SBT on the course is 30 targets like this past year or have you made it 50 this year ?

Don't forget, if you have rifles to shoot, after the daily events are completed we allow shooting at our steel targets. No solid core ammo allowed as they will cut through 1/2" AR500 steel. Bring vintage rifles or have some "black gun fun". It's all about having some "Bang and Clang Fun"!!

It is with great pleasure that we can announce to both Parker Universe and Fox Nation that the Fox-Parker Challenge will be held at Rock Mountain during our Northern SxS Challenge, July 27-30!! The shoot-off will be held on "Shoot-Off Saturday" on our 5-Stand. The time will be announced. Now we hold the FPC, Manufacturer's Cup and Pro-Am shoot-offs on Saturday afternoon. BLING IS THE THING!!

Mike correct me if I’m wrong , the Iron Man trophy is based on a shooters five best fifty target scores and the main event correct ? Will the fifty bird SBT event be eligible ? Anyway the max score is 330 correct ?

Mike Koneski
01-24-2023, 10:24 AM
Yes, the 50 bird SBT I eligible. Total targets to qualify are 330. Best 5 scores in 50 bird events plus the 80 bird Main. If one shoots both Main events we use the best of the two scores.

We have a very cool blue stone trophy coming for the Iron Man winner.

Mike Koneski

The "Grouse Walk", which is not on the registration form, is 27 birds for $30. There is a trophy for any gun maker and there are AHFCA trophies too. The Fox Grouse Walk is a small bore event so any gun smaller than a 12g is eligible. Our "any maker" event is for any gauge in a vintage gun.

Mike Koneski

Maybe one of these days my friend Craig will discover Fox smallbores. Any classic American maker's upland gun will go bang but many serious uplanders would agree that none have the simple but rugged mechanics and sexy looks of the Fox. I'm reminded here of the story about two young sisters told by Jack O'Connor. I paraphrase: one girl was attractive enough, even temperament, thrifty, a good cook and would make a good wife, mother and homemaker. The other had much the same qualities but was a lithe and raving beauty who had young men dreaming, fantasizing, singing outside her window and howling in the night. Their difference in look was only from a touch or two here and something there. And so it is with Fox smallbores. :) :)

I’ve owned several Sterlingworth small bores and honestly shot them as well as anything else . I could be swayed by a Sterlingworth or A grade 20 with 32” barrels .

Mike,

Any recommendations for accommodations?

I'm thinking I'll only be able to do Friday and Saturday so looking for a place to stay Friday night.

I thought I had seen some discussion on that subject somewhere but couldn't find it. I get lost easy.

For example, I got lost coming out of the shower last night. I had to call for my wife to help me. Ended up better than I expected.

I had a dish of maple walnut ice cream with maple syrup on it. What would be better?

Thanks Mike.

The motel place Daryl stays is pretty reasonable . It isn’t the taj mahal , but the heater/air worked the sheets and towels are clean and the shower was hot so what else does one need !

Bill, our website has lodging listed. No matter where you stay in Tunkhannock you will be 20 minutes away, tops. Skyline Hotel has the cheapest rates. There is also Shadowbrook Inn and Resort and they are reasonable too. Hampton Inn and Comfort Inn are there too and cost more than the Skyline and Shadowbrook. Usually if you tell them at Shadowbrook, Hampton or Comfort that you are staying for an event at Rock Mountain they will work out a discount. Hope this helps.

The Skyline is just about one mile west of downtown Tunkhannock on US Route 6. Besides the nearby Fireplace Restaurant there are plenty of good eating places in Tunk. Several shooters of Italian heritage rave about the Italian place in the plaza on the right approaching Tunk. From what I'm told many of the shooters staying at the Skyline will get together on the back patio and firm up small group plans for dinner that evening.

Alternately there's a group of fellas who stay at limited places in Montrose on PA 29 which is about equidistant from the Rock but the places there tend to get reserved early.

Shadowbrook (Golf Course and Motel) about 1/2 mile east of Tunk on US Route 6 is also good and competitively priced and there's a Perkins Restaurant on site; Shadowbrook also serves food at the bar and last I knew sit down dinners in its dining room. Phone 570-836-2151.

At the top of the hill overlooking the clubhouse and west half of the golf course. Exit the golf course/motel road and turn left, not right toward downtown Tunk. Only about 1/8 mile.

Last two shoots I participated in at Prospect Hall were shot with a Parker VHE 12 gauge trap 32” F&F and the other with a Parker VHE 16 gauge skeet 26” marked skeet in skeet out but by todays standards more like lite mod and mod . Anyway my final score in both shoots was two targets difference between the right gun vs the more open one .

Nice gun Frank, a real beast. Eye candy for sure, did you have it stocked?

Frank Srebro
06-18-2023, 10:20 AM
Thanks Randy. I bought the Model 21 in 2005. 32” VR Trap Grade stamped TRAP on its trigger plate and its stock with about 2-3/8” drop and 14-1/2” lop, and with 2-B checkering. Perfect dims for me for sporting clays. Must have been special ordered but Cody doesn’t have any info except the date in 1948 the frame was serial numbered and that it was shipped to a named place near Reading PA. Dave Riffle looked at it while at the 2006 Southern and thought everything was right. Stock had some finish flaking and I had just bought a Krieghoff and got to know the people there in Ottsville. The K service manager set me up with their refinisher then in Texas and I had the 21 stock redone with Krieghoff satin finish on the stripped/bare wood. I was into competitive sporting clays heavily back then and this 21 helped me punch up 2 classes. Then in 2008 I put the 21 away after getting involved in something else; but things have changed and hence the 21 has come out of the back of the safe.

A little something in case I’m inclined to shoot steel at the Northern  It’s my Remington 700 HB 5R in 260 REM with an Athlon 6-24x and suppressor . My for lack of a better term “damage control rifle” . If I’m wired right I can typically keep five in a ragged hole at 100 yards with my handload using Lapua brass CCI large BR primers , Hornady 129 SST and IMR4350 . I’m loading at the shop with used stuff I’ve picked up rather than trying to clean up my loading bench and doing it at home . An old Lyman press , Lyman powder measure and Lyman scale .

By any chance will this grouse walk thingy have a trophy for hammer and another for hammerless or just one to cover all ? Also does this have to be fired low gun ?

One trophy, no differentiation of H/HL. Yes, must start with a low gun, heel of stock below armpit.
