In anticipation of a winter restocking I am looking for photos of the parker factory round knob grips. ive always liked the one I have on my lc smith and admired what few parkers ive seen. I wonder if they were ordered to save money or as a compromise between straight and capped? Please post some photos for inspiration!

Personally, I think it was just one of the three styles available to order. Pistol, Capped Pistol or Straight.

Here are a couple. I have at least one other that I have not photographed yet. I can try to get a cell pic tonight and post it.

On some other makes it was pistol (capped), or half pistol (round knob), or straight. Was Parker not this way?

Yes, Parker Bros. used those terms and sometimes also used the term "round knob".
A great deal of the time we see the half-pistol grip or round knob grip referred to as the POW or "Prince of Wales" grip. This is a misnomer.
The only guns that ever had a true Prince of Wales were those made for the Prince of Wales (King Edward) by Churchill to the specs he and the Prince of Wales determined were best. This was told to me by David Trevallion, stockmaker at Purdey of London and currently plying his trade or mentoring a successor in southern Maine.
Below is the only Parker I have ever seen with a POW-shaped grip. Note the very slight arc of the grip.

There was also the ball grip where the end of the grip at the knob was larger than the rest of the grip.
In the stock books, Parker labeled their grips CPG, P.G. or --- (straight)

Right Chuck and I think we see those almost exclusively on hammer guns, most of the ball grips being on Lifters.

In the hammer gun era Parker Bros. had the distinctly bulbous pistol grip that many collectors call the "ball grip" and many mistakenly apply that term to the half-pistol grips of the hammerless era.
Most Parker Bros. catalogs just state "straight or pistol grip" --

By the Remington era they specify the "half pistol grip --

Round knobs on hammerless parkers are relatively rare. However, for some reason most all 410 parkers I have seen have them.
Anyway, the obscurity of hammerless round knobs is what drove me to stock my repro A1 in that style. To throw people off the Repro scent, since they were never offered in that configuration. I will be doing another one this way this upcoming year.

Reggie, I was just trying to illustrate how Parker abbreviated their grip types in the stock books. In the order books, they didn't list CPG, just P.G. for both types and if the stock book is available, it would tell me the exact type and that's what would go in the letter. If the stock book isn't available, the letter would just say pistol grip. I have seen 1/2 pistol grip in the order book entry but it's rare. I'm assuming that it's just a round knob grip. Maybe someone who has a letter stating 1/2 PG can tell us if it's different than just a round knob PG.

Thanks all for the photos.
Garry- ill circle back if I get the project going. Right now Im assessing options. I also obtained a straight trigger guard from a member and this is another likely starting point.

The wonderfully sculpted 'oyster shell' grip that Bruce shows was a very rare variation of the "ball grip" offered by Parker Bros. on hammer guns. I think I've only seen three or four of them.

I,m always amazed and somewhat envious of all the beautiful Parkers that the members have. As one who has three parkers (two trojans and one VH with with non- original wood) it always a treat to see some of the gorgeous Parkers. To all members and associates have a nice holiday season

Nick, I believe each has its own unique beauty, from low end to high. You should share photos of yours.

Funny thing Dean as I read your post that gun and I were passing through Wilkes-Barre on the way to Gamecreek in NJ for a couple day hunt with Dad. We ended our first day a few hours ago and the pup did well and the CHE was deadly on the birds. It has quickly become my favorite gun to shoot with the 28 gauge an extremely close second.
