Kurt:

For any of the hard rubber, dogs head style butt plates - I expect to see the spur on any grade made before the mid-1920s.

Observation teaches me that the spur disappears on lower grades sometime in the latter part of the 1920s.

To quote Dean: “From the very first T-latch Parkers with steel butt plates up until the late twenties 'all' butt plates had the widow's peak (or spurred) butt plates and the skeleton steel butt plate had the spur until the end of Remington production of the Parker gun.” 09-03-2021

This is an example of the wealth of information available on this board that is not necessarily published (at least where I can find it in TPS or my Price & Fjestad).

I’m glad you asked the question. Inspires me to use the search function and delve deeper into the commentary on butt plates within this board.

Yes. Spurred. Un-spurred plates did not come in until the mid 1920s

If you look on eBay and do a search on "Parker Butt Plate" you will see a listing for what are claimed to be NOS Parker skeleton but plates in an unfinished condition. The size is supposedly for large 12 of 10 gauge stocks. Don't know if this is really true, but they look right and I have been trying to find an original for a year. I have seen zero others for sale. The one I have had been butchered by a tinkerer at some point.
He listed 10 for sale when I purchased.

For a plastic or rubber plate there is a company on Gunbroker, eBay and Midway that sells a wide range of cast plates and grip cps molded from originals. Their biggest selection in on GB. I have used several over the years and they seem pretty decent when fitted.

The SSBPs you reference are mine. And yes. They are legit 3 frame sized original unfinished plates.

If someone was needing dogs head buttplates, I also have those as well. High quality reproductions as well as some good originals.

I'm glad to hear that. I assumed from the measurements that they were 3 frame, which is what I need for a project I am about to start.
