View Full Version : So what did you add to Your Parker collection in 2022?

Craig Larter

I know the year is still not over but I ask this every year. I added only one Parker, a 12ga Grade 1 TLH gun 30" with Laminate barrels. Sold 4 Parkers and two Elsies to fund the purchase of two Foxes (an XE and early style BE)and 5 Lefevers (C,DE,G,H and F)and one Elsie (Special A-1). OK so I find all the American SxS's interesting. How about you?

Let’s see and I won’t guarantee I don’t forget something . At Sanford a Grade 0 top lever 10 gauge 3 frame with 32” and a VHE 16 skeet with all the add ons . At Hausemanns a Grade 2 top lever 10 that had been restocked with about modern trap dimensions , gun also has an extra set of Belgium fluid steel 32” 3 1/2” chambers with Briley screw ins . Bought an Fox HE in august but it’s left the house already . In October I picked up a Fox 30” pin gun . Oh yeah somewhere in their I got a decent Remington Model 32TC 30” . Then in November I picked up a very nice circa 1918 DH 10 gauge 32” 3 frame with better stock dimensions and that same day I acquired a VH 20 gauge 0 frame 32” I’d sort of been after for almost two years . I won’t say that’s all for 2022 but I hope so , I have liquidated a bunch this year with a bunch more to go . Cleaning house cuts down on the stuff you need to work on !

Craig send the 20 gauges my way! I say that because I know you are a 12 guy! And a 10 & 8!

I added a 32" DHE, a 28" GHE, a 32" Fox AE and a high condition Lefever G grade, all 20s of course!

I moved a few out as well as my limit is way below 30!

I bought my first Parker. It is a 1905 DH 20 with 28 inch barrels. It lives in my safe with several Fox guns. I sold several guns to try and reduce my collection. I keep falling off the wagon and something else will slip in. John

I picked up a 20g lifter in Vegas back in January, a 12g VH single trigger 28" in May and a few other that were used as project guns. I have an 8 bore PH coming this winter and a super special project that I'll unveil when it's finished. Trust me, it is very cool.

Started in on some custom .22 center-fire wildcats this year and some vintage single shot rifles too. Let's just say I have plenty to occupy my time this winter.

I added a 1929 Grade 0 20 ga. Very nicely maintained. Found it in a little shop in eastern VA. Sweet shooter. Dusted some clays this past week with it. Moved a 1947 Marlin 30/30 and a Franci 12 and a Glock to get it. Then could not help myself and just took delivery on an 1889 Grade 2 12 ga. Damascus. 32” barrels. Also nicely maintained. The word is out. South Dakota pheasants are headed for the Black Hills next Oct.

Oh, and just for fun I spent lunch money on a 16 ga. St Etienne. I know. Guild gun. But dang it shoots nice. Clean. Tight. SxS is a disease I’ve always had. Can’t find much info on the dates of manufacture, but a handsome little tart nonetheless. Anyone know anything about these?

I added this 1891 2 grade 10. Oh yeah, a repro DHE 28, a first year Fox A Grade 12, a 1891 Smith12, a Remington 1894 12, a first year SS, ST BE 16 Fox, an American Arms 410 hammer. Too many for more pics. I'm forgetting something, but I need to stop. I have the sickness!

I was fortunate enough to become the caretaker for an AHE 12 gauge two-barrel set (one of the set being Damascus), a BHE 16 (with Damascus barrels), and a Holland & Holland hammer gun with 28 gauge and .410 barrels. The year is not over, and the good wife is softening up on a potential lifter. Fingers crossed...

I always come in at the end of these conversations for some reason and with today being so cold and I am just sitting around I thought I would post this one ! I sold a few and bought a couple but this one is a Keeper ! I shoot it well and Love the Late Remington era guns so I couldn't resist it ! I purchased it from an Older Gentleman on line that explained to me he bought it years ago " early Seventies and had stayed in business longer than the buyers had stayed alive and that when I purchased the gun it was actually the third time he had sold it ! When he initially bought it ,it had the case and has been sold each time with the case included which is Stamped Parker Co. Gun Works ,which I think is a Great Accessory to the gun !It is a VHE , 1/2 Frame 12 Gauge in Fairly high condition and according to the latest list of Half Frame guns that I have seen it is the Latest in the Serial Number Range ! It's a bit unique as it has an extra touch of engraving on the bottom of the receiver so it must have been a Friday Afternoon Finish gun ,it is as it letters with one exception ,the Letter says Full and Full and the Barrels are Stamper Mod and Full ! I feel quite fortunate to have snatched this one up !

Russ, is that a buck's head or buck's antlers?

.

Russ Jackson
12-24-2022, 03:51 PM
You know Dean , the first thing I thought of when I actually had it in hand was Buck Antlers !!! I sent for the letter immediately hoping something about the extra engraving and also the case would be mentioned ! Of course with the IBM cards I really didn't expect it and as you can see by the letter neither was touched on so I guess we will never know for sure !

Russ Jackson
12-24-2022, 06:32 PM
Thank You Mills , I'm surprised you didn't see it ,it was on Gun Broker started at $99.00 and ran for seven days ! The seller never mentioned it being a 1/2 Frame gun but showed clear pictures of that fact but it must have been over looked by many as there ended up with only a half dozen different bidders and only one who had as much interest as I had and ran it up considerably from the $99.00 Starting point at the end of the auction as is normal ! I contacted the Gentleman right away ,as soon as I saw the listing and we discussed the gun via text and e-mail he sent pictures etc., I explained the fact it was a 1/2 Frame which didn't seem to matter much to him , he owned a Gun Shop / Toy Store was in his mid eighties and going out of business !

No new Parkers, but my friend Edgar turned me on to a beautiful set of orphan 20 ga 28"Twist steel barrels for a hammer gun. They required very little fitting on my O frame 16 ga hammer gun , and look great. They probably have been opened up, but I like them that way.
I did pick up a Dickinson 28 ga with 30" barrels , choke tubes, and a 14 7/8 LOP, 5 3/4 lbs. I shot it well in the UP this year and shot some pheasants with it also. Parker friend Kenny Graft turned me on to that one.

I was slow to buy or sell anything this year. Had some medical issues to address so my mind was elsewhere but in the coming year I hope to pick up a nice 28 ga sxs. Would be nice if it is an original Parker Bros but a Repro 28 would do nicely or Fox 28. I do have a nice Beretta 28 ga o/u that I enjoy shooting but I have the same scourge that most of us have and just want a sxs. When I get the 28 ga sxs, I'll get rid of the Beretta.

Xmas came early this year, got this Parker 2 weeks ago at a small gun show. Its a 20ga VHE with 30 inch barrels. Was restored by someone 30+ years ago said the seller. Weight of 6lb 8oz full and full with 2 7/8 inch chambers. Haven't shot it yet but it feels great with 14 1/4 - 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 just as letter says, only thing not in letter was the chambers at 2 7/8.

I found a few this year including a 32" 16 gauge hammer gun on a 0 frame.
Not too many of those made...

I also picked up a 30" DHE with a vent rib and a Parker single trigger.

Then there was the P marked GHE 12 gauge with 30" barrels that I showed in another thread.

Early in the year I came across a 16 gauge GHE with 28" barrels.

I also found a P grade 12 gauge with 30" Titanic barrels.

But, the one I'm happiest with is the DHE Skeet gun with a beavertail forend, a checkered butt and a Parker single trigger. Although, it is a 12 gauge.

And lastly, one I didn't mention from last year, in fear of taking a lot of heat about it, was the 20 gauge Trojan with 28" barrels and the V grade replacement stock that Cabela's was selling. That gun is lovely shooter and I'm really glad I bought it.

I doesn't look like I am going to add anymore Parkers this year so I better post to this...

I added a few back actions one 14 gauge and two in 12b, one is a very early serial #029

I added a nice original condition damascus 16 GHE with 28" barrels choked m/m that is just wonderful. It is a go to gun for sure.

I bought that 32" 20 gauge DHE on an "0" frame that everyone was talking about on GunBroker. Breck Gorman has the barrels and is working his magic and Brian Dudley will soon have the stock and forend and get that looking good. That is going to be a sweet Parker and I can't wait to start using that one!

Last, but certainly not least, I found a beautiful 1927 VH 410 on a "000" frame that shoots as good as it looks.

Overall a great year!

No Parkers added this year but I did add a trio of Lefevers, a DS 20, FE 16, and CE 12. The
DS has 28 inch barrels and is choked .006 & .012, the FE has 26 inch barrels and is choked .010 & .018, and the CE has 30 inch barrels choked .005 & .024.

For 2023 I’d like a VHE 20 26” skeet in skeet out , single trigger , straight grip , checkered butt and fat forend that letters that way , preferably in good original condition . But at this point in my life I can deal with recolored reblued refinished as long as it’s done well . The rub is going to be to find one I like for a price I’m willing to accept

The original article on the A.C. Middleton 16-gauge, 230329, was by Dick Baldwin in the May 1971, Guns and Ammo, back around the time Gary Herman liberated it from the Ford family.

Picked up an 1893 GH 77913 12 gauge, #1 Frame, 30" barrels. The book says Capped Pistol Grip. I have no idea what the chokes are yet, but it shoots like gang busters.
