I just reread in George Bird Evans best of Nash Buckingham that Buckingham claimed he was told Burt Becker at one time worked for Parker and was supposedly the one that made the Parkers for the Colombian Exposition . I am wondering if this is known to be true or known to be false ?

He worked for/at Parkers for a short period. Haven't heard the rest that though.

The details about Mr. Becker’s career received some attention last year.

I also reread in the book that the guy in the car with Nash when he lost his cannon was a Cliff Green I am assuming that was the same person as J.Cliff Green that had the two Gun four barrel Parker BHE skeet set built .

Right Craig, he worked for/at Parker Bros. For a period during which time he may have “made” the Columbian Exposition…….
Are all of those paragraphs on the depicted page actual quotes of a real person? Who wrote that rubbish? There are so many unsupported claims about which guns actually? In some cases when referring to a gun’s features he doesn’t even identify which gun he’s talking about. Some of that “information” is so far out of context it’s hard to believe any of his other claims

The way it’s presented it’s supposed to be what Buckingham was telling someone of which GBE got from the letters . And that page came from the book pictured below .

Yes Craig. I have a couple of copies of that book. And I understand where it came from but in so many ways it is hearsay and in other ways, to me, it’s gibberish because specific guns aren’t identified.

Craig, I think the Cliff Greens were one and the same. The Cliff Green who owned the pair of Parker BHE skeet guns was a serious Maryland waterfowler who was probably with Nash when "they" lost Bo Whoop.

Some of the old outdoor writers stretched the truth a bit. IMHO

These old gun writers were often telling stories, not reporting factual news. I have long thought one has to do some reading between the lines with Nash, but there are dangers in that as well. It has long been my feeling that Nash, and several of the other old writers, never let exact facts get in the way of a good story.

What was his "home" skeet club ? National Capitol or Talbot ?

AND in many cases, a lot of alcohol was involved.

Craig, Cliff Green's friends seem to have been members at Sudlersville Skeet Club.

In one of my scrapbooks from my younger days, I have a postcard sent from the National Championship Skeet Shoot by members of the Sudlersville Skeet Club to their friend, Cliff Green lamenting that he couldn't be with them at the shoot. I don't have the postcard in my hand, but as I recall, more than one of the shooters I actually shot with when I was a youngster. Cliff Green lived in Centerville, MD, just down the road from Chestertown. My great old 20 gauge SC grade single trap two barrel 12-20 set lived in Chestertown about the same time as Cliff Green's even greater BHE two gun four gauge set. Those Eastern Shore guys sure knew how to order Parkers. I shot many skeet shoots at the Sudlersville Skeet Club and met some of the grand old men of NSSA skeet at those shoots. I wrote the Hall of Fame induction for Joe George, an early Sudlersville member and father of Johnny George, proprietor of the sporting clays range that is no longer with us, (what is the name of that great range?). In 1996, I won the Eastern Shore Open at Sudlersville, one of my high spots of competitive shooting. Next month, this shoot will be held again, and Cliff Green and I will not be competing.

The Green set was THE main reason I flew to the Southern the first time I was there . I wanted to take a couple pictures and honestly say I was in the presence of that set . I’ll never afford the set but if I did I would try to wear them out shooting them !

Craig, maybe we can get a communal group to purchase the gun and shoot it on alternate days or weeks. Since I'm a low roller, I'll be willing to take Mondays. By the way, John George's sporting clays club was J&P Sporting Clays, a great range in its time.

If and it’s a damn big if ! If that set ever graced my hands I most likely wouldn’t turn them loose ! Not just on the skeet field but I’d be up for using them for dove and or quail .
