The Grand is well under way and today is day 2 for John Davis and myself. Day 1 we both shot doubles. John shooting a Parker GHE, vent rib, double triggers, BTFE went a respectable 89 out of 100. I shot a 55 using a GHE for the first 50 and a DHE for the second. The pic below is John shooting today in the prestigious Champions of Champions 100 target competition. We both shoot another round of doubles and a round of handicap. More to come….

I assume from the picture of John above that they do not use human pullers at the Grand now all voice activated ?

That’s correct.

So John ended up with a 98 in C of C. We then moved on to the handicap competition. The skies have cleared but a stout headwind has kicked up. JD posted a 93 from the 23 yd line. I shot handicap from the 20 yd line and broke 74 out of 100. Our final competition today is Doubles. Update to follow.

So we can say John was sandbagging in the doubles with an 89/100?? :rotf::rotf:

We finished the doubles competition around 5:00 pm. It’s a fun, fast paced event. John had 94 and I had 72. I was happy with that. My right shoulder is really getting sore from recoil. I obviously haven’t practiced enough to build up a tolerance. It took 20 or 25 shots before it started loosening up enough for me to shoot somewhat comfortably. Tomorrow we shoot the Singles competition. That’s 200 targets from the 16 yard line. I’m hoping my shoulder will be able to handle it

Surprisingly nice. Low to mid 80’s and a breeze.

Well it was a heck of run, until it wasn’t. Between the Champion of Champions event on Wednesday and the Singles Championship on Thursday, I went 25-25-24-24-25-25-24-25-24-25-25-21. We shot the last box late in the day and by the time I got to post 5, I was having trouble with a capital “T” picking up the targets. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted and the Parker SA held up her end of the bargain. Doubles and handicap today.

I was down there for three days. It is an quite a spectacle. Monday was 95 degrees. That was pretty miserable. The next two days were very pleasant.

That's still very impressive John. I doubt I'll ever get to go there (not to shoot) but just to see what it looks like. Then again I might compare it to Vandalia which wouldn't be right. Just too far to travel at my age.

Well this just wasn't my day. The juice just wasn't there. Doubles and Handicap were both humbling. Can't blame the Parkers, they did their part. It happens, fortunately not too often (knock on wood). Better luck next time. Headed back to God's country in the morning. As always, it was a blast.

If you can imagine a trap line three miles long it’s still beyond belief. Stan they have a Nostalgia Shoot that would be a great event for any Parker officianado to participate in. Or if you would just like to go and shoot at the Grand American it is a very accommodating venue. All shooters are welcome whether they be competitive like John or “Gentlemen Shooters” (to quote Charlie Herzog) like me. It’s a great experience.

The Nostalgia Shoot is what kind of intrigued me, not that I expect to give anyone any competition, I would just love to see the event and shoot a little,

While at the Grand, someone on my squad asked me about my Parker SBT and commented that you only saw them in the Nostalgia Shoot. I told him every event was a Nostalgia shoot for me.
