.410 has been the hardest to find, I’ve had luck with Cabelas, and Academy Sports regularly get some in but it sells fast so you have to check daily. Currently RST has 2-1/2 inch 410 right now for $200 a case. Good luck

Strangely enough I saw a few boxes a Wallmart a few weeks ago and grabbed them. As I recall they were less than $15/box.

Or load them for 97 cents. Just joking, it's $2.45 a box.

No kidding. Of all the gauges and bores reloading the .410 can save you the most. I have a "boutique" load I developed for my 3" chambered .410s that carries .73 oz. of true nickel plated shot and delivers it at about 1150 fps. It patterns beautifully and hits doves like the hammer of Thor. What a box of those would cost, if someone could be coaxed into loading and selling them, is only to be imagined.

Cheap 2 1/2" .410 loads are loaded with soft shot, almost always, and the resulting patterns show it. Many people who use these cheapest loads badmouth a .410's performance. Often it is not the bore, but the load, that is responsible for the poor performance. JMO,YMMV

I saw Mr Baker at the N S/S yesterday. He has 410s.

Thanks for the info
I planning to take my model 42 out tomorrow but only have some 3” game loads. Only shot it once before using my only box of 2-1/2” and it was fun to shoot.
What do most of you use 3” or the 2-1/2” . Seems most of the skeet shooters use the 2-1/2”.
Seems like a no brainer to do some reloading.

The 2 1/2", 1/2 ounce, loads are mandated for registered targets in skeet and sporting clays. I have killed many doves with them also, but prefer 3" loads for game birds. The old WW 3/4 ounce load is a super good patterning, and killing, load for me. I have some .410 doubles that are not regulated with any lighter load than this.

Having done a lot of shotgun patterning in my life with doubleguns I have found that the lighter the gun the more critical it is that the shooter find the load it likes the best, and that will shoot both barrels to point of aim. .410s can be very finicky because of their, usually, very light weight.

I was trying to shoot Fioochi 410 target loads at Rock Mountain last weekend . My Iver Johnson Hercules wasn’t always setting them off , so I borrowed a friends Iver Johnson Skeeter same result . The same friend gave me two boxes of another brand problem solved . So I’ll not be buying anymore Fioochi atleast for the 410 . Seems they have a harder primer . Worst part of this is I lost several targets for ammo malfunctions with hunters rules and the fact that I have an unopened flat of Remington STS 410’s here at home:banghead:

There were three boxes of Federal 2-1/2” 410s at Walmart yesterday. Was surprised to see them, although I do not have a .410.

How much were the .410s at Walmart? My Walmart doesn't have them, but the four packs of 20 gauge were $34.42. That amounts to $8.65 a box, about as cheap as they can be bought anywhere. You could have as many as were on the shelf.

I think they were 8.75, I was focused on the Winchester AA 12 bore shells they had.
