My copy came yesterday. Great job by all the authors. Garry it is always interesting to read how others approach collecting Parkers. I must say I fall more in line with your approach versus the non-user type collector. All the other articles were well done and very interesting, one of the best issues yet in my opinion. Thanks Craig

I know this sounds like a broken record and no offense to those that don’t shoot them , but anything I buy I plan to use . All be it maybe sporadically but I plan on using each and everyone I acquire .

Mine came yesterday as well. The cover was instantly recognizable to some of us who attend the Southern and chat with Eric. He displays those long barrel Parkers and has a real nice selection of collectibles and ephemera as can be seen on the cover. This evening I hope to get some reading done. BTW I have already tried talking Eric out of those Parkers which was a no go :)

Mine arrived on Monday and as usual, I read "Parkers In Pulp" first. I'm never disappointed with this column by John Davis and this one in particular really got the juices flowing!
"Why?" you might ask... Because the vast majority of it was about Parker Bros. shotguns and the 1893 World's Fair Columbian Exposition and that is important to me because I very recently found out through a PGCA Research Letter that the 16 ga. GH I bought almost twenty years ago was made for the 1893 Columbian exposition! That being the case, it would not be far-fetched to imagine that out of 100 Parkers on display there it may have been the only 16 gauge GH in the Parker Bros display and was very likely handled a number of times by duBray or Tucker while passing it to interested prospects.
Thank You so much John!!
Now to read the rest of my new Parker Pages.

Dean, Leffingwell may have fondled your gun as well.

Mine will arrive pretty soon. As for carrying a shotgun, the quickest way to get a ride when you're hitch hiking in Alaska is to have an open S/S slung over your shoulder, waders, and a full backpack on your back. Everyone wants to know "where did you hunt and how'd you do?" Sure worked for me when I'd park my car, float a creek hunting then hitch back to the car and go get the boat.

The mail finally crossed the Mississippi! I am really enjoying this issue. As Gary pointed out, Phil's article hits home with many of us (even if we've hunted our entire lives). And there's enough joy and promise in that photo of Mill's son and pup to spread to my rainy Missouri day as I sit in the studio and ponder things. ...And, many thanks to Mike and Sammy for their good work and assistance. Sammy (I hope it's okay that I call you that even never having met you), thanks also for expanding my vocabulary by letting me know the multiple meanings of "popple" -- who knew?!
Now I'm going to see if I can find anything more (thanks, John!) about W. Leffingwell's possible connection to Dean's little Parker...

Mike and Susan, great issue, great selection of articles.
Thanks Bill. We just put the spit and polish on the articles and photos. We probably have more fun editing than your contributors do writing. :)

Leffingwell? Did he use it here in Alaska? He's certainly well known up here. I think a hut he used inland is still at least partially standing. He mapped much of the coastline using boats in summer and dogs in winter and his work has not been improved on. He figured out there was oil potential there, which wouldn't be too difficult since there were oil seeps that formed small lakes in the tundra. His USGS reports are still available. When he finished his years of work up here he went south, married? and never returned. He remains one of the most famous explorers of Alaska ever.

Thanks to all involved in putting out this quarter’s issue of PARKER PAGES, from the “back office” personnel, field representatives, and correspondents, to the feature article writers.
As for the authors of some of the most informative, high-quality, and poignant pieces I have seen yet: Thank you for publishing these in our quarterly journal, included as they are in the package of benefits that we pay for by way of our annual $40 membership dues.
On account of developments, variously national and personal, that are impacting my finances, I have been “retrenching”. Thus, there are outdoor magazines that I am no longer subscribing to, and I appreciate seeing some pieces that are of “world class quality" generously contributed to the PGCA to be published “in-house”.
