The PGCA Distinguished Service Award program is coming back for 2022 and beyond! I am now serving as the Chairperson for the program committee and the other members of the committee are current board members Mills Morrison and Randy Roberts.

The selection of the award recipients is based on nomination of their peers. PGCA members should nominate fellow members that they feel have gone 'above and beyond ' the ordinary and will have distanced themselves by the merit of their deeds. They will have furthered the mission of the PGCA and will have promoted good will and fellowship among members and visitors at activities including the Forum, PGCA sanctioned events, PGCA displays, and PGCA 'headquarters' at shows and events. They will have given freely of their time in doing these deeds and will have presented a friendly face of the PGCA.

As a reminder, the tabulation of the nominations are taken over a previous rolling 3 year period. The committee has decided to continue with the presenting of 2 awards per year. Though the program has been dormant for the last 2 years, we DO have nominations that have come in since the 2019 annual meeting that are open for consideration. The two members inside of that time frame receiving the most nominations will have their names submitted to the PGCA board for seconding approval and will receive the awards. So, please help the program get back up and running again and take the time to submit some nominations for deserving individuals.

Nominations can be submitted by going to the homepage, clicking on the "Awards and Recognitions" tab on the left menu and navigating to the nomination form.

Please remember that current members of the PGCA Board of Directors are NOT eligible for the award. And I would also exclude myself from that as well being the Chair of the committee. PAST serving board members can be considered.

I am going to set the deadline for accepting nominations for 2022 as Midnight Friday May 27th. As the awards will be announced at the annual meeting on Friday June 3rd.

Brian, who are the previous recipients? This so we don't nominate them again. Thanks.

The previous recipients of the award can be found in a link to the DSA Honor Roll. On the same pages as the nomination form.

Members can nominate as many people as they wish, but only once per year.

Thanks Brian for taking this on. I know from my experience with the AHFCA that very few are willing to step up for the long haul. But we should honor those that make a long term commitment to our hobby,.

My pleasure buddy..!

I hope all PGCA Members take a minute and cast their nominations for this incredible bit of recognition by their fellow members...! As a past recipient - I can say, it means a lot...

Anyway - thanks so much Brian for keep this ball rolling! It's incredibly appreciated...

Just a reminder that the end of this week (friday) is the close for nominations for the DSA for this year. We have gotten a good amount of nominations as of now, which is great. Keep them coming.

So how many different folks have been nominated ? Well if it’s alright to disclose that before the fact !

Dean Romig

If I may…

Having run the DSA program since its inception, and I don’t know if any of the rules or standards have changed now that I’m not involved… It’s okay to give the number of nominees but not the names of the nominees. Doing so might tip the scales one way or the other for a particular nominee.

In the past one of the guidelines was that you can name as many people that you believe are deserving, but you cannot nominate a particular person more than once per year.
If the rules have changed, or if I’m out of line in answering this, please correct me Brian.

I plan to make my nominations today.

Our slate of candidates is the entire membership of the PGCA.

Brian Dudley

Yes Dean, that is all correct and still in effect.

I would like to remind everyone that current serving board members and members are NOT eligible for nomination.

Past serving board members are.

I have been receiving some invalid nominations for board members.

CraigThompson
05-26-2022, 09:21 AM
With all that being said the number of “eligible” persons sent in so far was not answered !

Unless I’m missing something in this blurb , nowhere in it does it say anything about board member past present etc . Distinguished Service Award: The purpose of the PGCA Distinguished Service Award Pin program is to adopt a way to recognize a member's personal contributions of spirit, time, dedication and reliability unselfishly donated for the good of the organization. These members will be recognized before their peers at an official PGCA function, primarily the PGCA Annual Meeting and Banquet.

The members recognized will have gone 'above and beyond ' the ordinary and will have distanced themselves by the merit of their deeds.

The award for each recipient will be a lapel pin replicating the distinct outline and engraving of the fore end tip of a high grade Parker gun. The recipient will also receive an award letter that is suitable for framing.

Members of the PGCA who have received the Distinguished Service Award Pin have their names placed on an Distinguished Service Honor Roll to provide a permanent record of their extraordinary service to the Parker Gun Collectors Association.

If you would like to nominate a fellow PGCA member to be considered for the Distinguished Service Award fill out a nomination form and submit it to the PGCA.

Nominations are accumulated for a rolling three-year period. After a name has been in the nominations file for three consecutive years it will drop off leaving only current (within a calendar three years) entries for that nominee.

Okay one of you stated ANY member is eligible then the other states only past BOD’s are eligible and the burb I copied and pasted says nothing about the BOD badge being a necessity either past or present .

CraigThompson

What’s correct Romig says , “Our slate of candidates is the entire membership of the PGCA.” And Dudley says “Yes Dean, that is all correct and still in effect.

I would like to remind everyone that current serving board members and members are NOT eligible for nomination.

Past serving board members are.” ! Those two statements do not line up .

Look at the first post in this thread. I think the new explanation may be a little different from the previous, but, sitting board members are the only excluded members, I believe.

Dean Romig
05-26-2022, 09:56 AM
One of the 'rules' was that currently serving officers and BOD members are not eligible to receive the award but those who have held such positions in the past are certainly eligible. This was posted somewhere, even if only in a notice about the Distinguished Service Award Program that I would have posted more than once in previous years. So it didn't get on the "Awards and Recognition" page on our HOME page. It will need to be included so as to eliminate confusion... Sorry to All but that doesn't change anything because it was publicly posted on the PGCA Forum in more than one previous year.

Mills Morrison

Sitting board members are not eligible. Members who served on the board previously but are no longer on the board ARE eligible. Hope that helps.

Any body except sitting BOD are eligible then . And I would assume those already having recieved the award aren’t eligible anylonger ?

Dean Romig

Former recipients of the DSA are eligible but their three-year accumulation of nominations begins the year following their award year.

This may not have been included in the Home page Awards & Recognition tab.

When I initially read what Brian posted in post at 7:18AM this morning it led me to believe the only ones eligible were past BOD folks . And I quote “ I would like to remind everyone that current serving board members and members are NOT eligible for nomination.

This is a point that I will have to clarify with the committee and get their thoughts.

Craig, right from the nomination form-

"Members of the PGCA Board of Directors and officers are disqualified from receiving the Distinguished Service Award by the mere fact that they are not considered, for these purposes, to be the regular membership while holding office."

In recognition of his continued service...?

But hey, I'm no longer involved in the DSA.

Jimmy- yes I was a Charter member. Ain't many of us left!!!

First let me thank the Committee for selecting me for this award.
Second I had no idea it was coming or had been awarded until I got a little package with a pin in it and I texted Romig and Kuss. I didn't go to the Annual meeting or anywhere at that time as I was on COVID #2 after coming home from the hospital for a 4 day stay for a nasty Staph infection. 24 hour IV antibiotics. My wife says it was from the High School Pool showers that I frequent 4 times a week. I think its my sockless adventures working at our farm. BTW I was vaxxed and boosted.
Third because I had to look up this on the Forum, I had to look up my name and password so I could get on!! I almost called Dunkle. That's assuming he would remember me.
Fourth I can't believe Kobos hadn't already gotten it. Maybe because he was ineligible due to his position? He was decades overdue.
Finally, it has made me feel bad for not being more attentive to the Forum and my long lost PGCA friends. With two kids getting married, COVID, and my added legal responsibilities as a United States Bankruptcy Trustee, I have been too busy. I need to pull some of those dusty Parker shotguns out of the safe and go shooting at Addieville. I have kept hunting with Parkers but this year will be difficult without Charlie (Charles Parker). He was only 7 but I had to put him to sleep two weeks ago because of cancer. He will be missed this fall. His picture is somewhere on the Forum.
Again, thanks to the Committee for this award. It makes me feel even older.
OOPS- Charlie's picture is on my avatar. There you go.

George, you are very deserving of this award and I'm glad it was finally awarded to you!

You have been missed on the Forum and whenever you want to have some company at Addieville just let me know!!
