View Full Version : New stock needed for d grade

Hello. I hate that this is my first post and I need help but here goes. I have waited and watched several years to pick up my first Parker. It finally happened with at least to my eye a nice d grade 12 on a 1.5 frame. I bought it to shoot and hunt with and it was actually more than I figured to get for the first one. So the gun came today and I went to transfer it and the stock was broken in half at the wrist during shipment. The rest of the gun to me seems good. The seller is willing to work something out and pay for or at least contribute to a new stock. I was looking for recommendations for someone to restock it to d grade quality and if there was a ballpark number I should be expecting. Thanks in advance for the help.

That's what I was afraid of. Not sure what my options really are now. Today went from a great day to really bad pretty quick.

Is there any chance of fixing this stock.

Probably no need for a restock Andy. The wood magicians can work magic with pieces. Post some pics of the damaged goods and let's see what you have to work with. Unfortunate situation but you're a long ways from jumping off the ledge just yet, especially if you have a cooperative seller and we are not talking about a super high condition gun.

Ship it back to the seller & get your money back. The seller is responsible for refunding the buyer's payment, whether or not the item was insured.

Thanks for some hope Randy. The gun has good engraving and everything matches up and it seems to have been fairly well cared for but its definitely not a pristine collector. I wanted something that was a good representative but that I wouldn't be afraid to carry behind a dog. I posted pics but maybe they aren't showing. Im happy with the gun with the exception of the stock break. Any ideas on fixing or recommended wood doctors is definitely appreciated.

Andy just my thought on this. Return it. There are lots of reconditioned nice DH Parkers that you can buy for less money than what you can wrap up in this gun.
My suggestion if you want a good Parker, join the PGCA and place an ad in the want to buy section.
You will get several great guns offered to you at a fair price.

I should have clarified, this was based on having a new stock built. Lots of repairs have been done to broken stocks and hold up great. I have a reproduction 20 gauge that was broken in half and was properly repaired and despite a fall afterwards still not cracked, just some ugly dings in the stock.

There are some wonderful gunsmiths that could handle that:ggogle these guys

I'm sure there are many more, you gotta wonder how the hell that happens in shipping.

There sure is.

Try any of a few who are very capable of an invisible fix, like Brian Board of Timberluxe, Brian Dudley BMD Gunstocks, Chris Dawe in Newfoundland, TSD The Stock Doctor, and others.

Andy I have posted these pics before of a broken stock repair so others have already seen them. This will give you some idea of what can be done. I am no expert by any means but I do not see your repair being all that difficult, I could be wrong so it would be best to wait for more knowledgeable folks to chime in. I will not quote what this repair cost my friend, I will only say how inexpensive it was compared to what I was thinking it was going to be. Good luck with it.

I agree its crazy that it happened during shipment. I did see very close up pictures of the wrist area prior to shipment and it looked fine. It was packaged pretty well also. It did get stuck in the snowstorm down south and was stuck for several days. Im not sure if something out of the ordinary happened at that time or not. After having the gun in hand I feel like it's worth fixing if its not just a crazy amount. It seems to be a solid gun that wasn't used a ton and I actually don't have a lot in it. I really appreciate the names for the stock repairs and I will be contacting them.

Randy would you care to let me know who did the repair. If you prefer a private message that's fine also. That is almost a miracle to my eyes on that stock. Thanks again.

Andy, we presume the gun was shipped broken down (disassembled into the two major sections) but was it or was it shipped assembled?

No problem with that at all David Vandenbrand out of MI did that one. Any of the names previously mentioned could do this I would think.

It was shipped assembled. Im sure that is what gave enough torque to break it at some point. It wasn't someone familiar with doubles that had it.

EXACTLY - these guns must never be shipped assembled unless shipped in an airlines type hard case.

Thanks for the help guys. The recommendations that you all posted paid off. The seller is paying for the repair plus some and after talking to several of the names mentioned I got a couple reasonable quotes and some confidence that it can definitely be repaired. Its not how I hoped it would happen but hopefully it all works out. It seems to me gettting this gun usable again beats it just setting around somewhere. I dont intend to ever sell the gun. My three boys are already placing dibbs on it lol. Maybe it will be a good excuse to pick another up someday.

A slippery slope there, could end up 6!

Well a few more parkers in the safe couldn't be all bad. It wouldn't take to much twisting my arm to get me to give in. One for each boy is definitely a great excuse.

It's not a bad thing but.......can be habit forming. That line of thought can lead to a household owning more gun safes than automobiles for sure.

Didn't the seller have insurance on your Parker?/

Andy, best of luck with the repairs to this nice Parker. Just think of this as the beginning of a long-term relationship with Parker sxs's. You won't regret it and nor will your heirs.
