I get frusted with the search engine here. Did a Google search on the above subject and got several relevent hiots, but they couldn't be located ( I think due to the Board changing. I have tried everything I can think of and no relevent hits. Search always just looks for something like gauge or low pressure and never seems to look for any complex occurances. Anyway, any suggestions?

Arthur:

What kind of short ten load do you need? Here is my 1.25 ounce duck load:

I highly recommend it.

I, as many, just use a mild 12ga load and sub in the 10ga wad and 20ga filler in the plastic wad. If the load has 9000psi or less in a 12ga it's going to have even less pressure in a 10. The chamber, being larger has more surface area for the pressure to work on so it's less. Good luck.

That same load CL listed in his post " pressure testing 19grs of Red Dot " in the 10ga, Alliant has pressure listed at 10,000 in a 12ga. That's a 3500psi drop from 12 to 10ga. Take or add a 1000psi for different primers and or wads and you still have 2500psi drop.

Charlie that recipe has garnered a lot of attention on the forum so I wanted to try it out, fortunately I was able to land some Red Dot thanks to a generous member
I loaded up 6 to put on the chrony:
New Cheddite hull trimmed to 2 7/8
Cheddite primer
18.8 grs Red Dot (MEC #33)
Rem SP 10 wad
1 1/8 oz #7.5
One 12 Ga 1/4" and two 16 Ga 1/8" cork fillers
6 shot average of 1,182 FPS

It's off to the Sporting Clays course New Years day for some fun with 10.

Clay targets OMG all targets until mid February should either be feathered or have hair/fur :rotf:

Hunting for you guys who can still walk in the fields and woods. But for some of us who still like shooting the old SxSs, it's claybirds. And I prefer 1oz loads in the 10. Such a nice short stack height, it seems like all the BBs are getting there at the same time. I can really " smoke " some birds with a light load.

Most of my feathered birds this season have come at tower shoots . Got a couple walk up deals yet this season and a couple more tower shoots . But I’m only 61 but walking isn’t as easy now as it once was . I did use two different 10’s at tower shoots this year a really nice DH and the Grade 2 I got at Hausemanns that’s been restocked and an added fluid steel barrel . Plan on a 16 this Sunday for the tower shoot but on 1/14 I’m vacillating between a 10 or a 12 for the last tower shoot of the season . Hopefully I’ll get in on a rabbit deal or two before I go overseas in February . But as the old saying goes “if I never kill another bird/animal I’ve already done enough for a lifetime”

So how did the low octane loads do on the course for you ? I’ve used the 1 1/8 with 18.6 in the 10 at skeet , trap and 5 stand with pretty satisfying results . But I gotta admit I still prefer the 1 1/4 ounce with 30 grains of SR7625 . That 1 1/4 load with 6’s might knock over a handful of squirrels in the next couple weeks
