So, how many Remington repair codes can they get on one barrel flat? Saw this on GI today --

So we can assume the barrels were made in October of either 1936 or '37 depending on whether the second letter is an "E" or a "F". Then returned in August of '38, October '51, January '54 and August '54. Is this correct?

No. They are not Remington barrels. They are Jim Geary barrels from before the OVERLOAD PROVED stamps. The serial number chronology says it is a 1915 vintage gun. The rib legend says "MERIDEN, CONN."

I believe I see a 3 after that EE or EF tight to the lug. Five repair codes.

EE or EF3 -- October 1936 or 1937
WG3 -- August 1938
EXX3 -- October 1951
BA3 -- January 1954
WA3 -- August 1954

My guess is that after all this the owner gave up and got the Miller SST that is on the gun now. Perhaps the earliest repair code was when the gun was fitted with the beavertail forearm and an SST.

Just to add to this thought: the fact of a repair code doesn't necessarily mean barrel replacement. Except sometimes it does, e.g., here is an early PH gun that now has a single 1940 repair code with steel barrels marked in the manner of 1940 guns. Is currently listed on GB.

I've been watching that one for a while, but I have restrained myself, mostly because of the recent sales tax problem.

Me too Bill! An interesting gun with strong, heavy steel barrels yet that asks a number of questions that could hurt if the time ever comes to sell. Among them, what is up with the cyanide CC on the forend iron and the butt stock isn’t original. The OV stamped barrels seem to show they were made earlier than 1940. Researcher had the thought maybe Remington might have been running short on 2 frame barrels by then.

I own a 3rd generation family Grade 7 Parker that lists 2 extra features originally.
With ejectors and SST-that is two according to Parker Bros.
The AAHE was returned to Ilion in 1936 for service.
There is a "22" above the lug-left flat that by the repair codes indicates "ventilated rib".

Was the rib added or were barrels and rib made as a new set? The rib is marked
"Peerless Steel" with Meriden, CT stamping. Peerless was the later grade
steel used on the higher grades by Parker and probably Remington/Parker.
An extra stock & BT forend were either added later or..original.
No code found for large forend. Questions....
