Engraving and new life for an old Ruger

Far from a fine double but I’d like to think she is a little better than she was.
I found this old Ruger at a pawnshop and she was pretty rough but it felt good and was mechanically sound and the price was right. After all busting into the south Texas brush where everything bites and scratches you ,a new gun doesn’t look new very long. I stripped off all the old varnish and was happy to find some really nice tiger stripe underneath. Sanded her down to the white, did some silver inlays, and scrolled her out with some old western style bright cut. Finished it off with a French gray blueing and back to the brush she goes. I feel confident that one day my grandson will bang out a limit of dove while my son overseas the action carrying one of the Parker‘s. I of course plan on being there to soak it all In. I present TEXAS RED. She’s nothing fancy but she’s hell on South Texas Dove and Quail.

You don’t often see that kind of figure in a Ruger’s wood unless it was ordered with better wood. You have done that gun proud!

A long time ago I bought a Red Label 20 but it was stocked way too high so in field shooting I never did very well but I won trophys in local trap events.

Thank you , I was very pleased. It was Ruff ...surprisingly I was able to steam out most all the Scratches and dents in the wood . It still amazes me how good that works . I’ll look back and see if I can find the before pictures.
D5 is our Family brand.

Due west of Houston. Long ago we were a rice farming community covered with ducks and geese but those days are long gone. The rice fields are now filled with homes and were just the west side of the armpit.

Not in relation but I’ve hunted the King many times. South Texas is my stomping grounds. Originally I was going to put all the historic Texas ranches but I decided to do that on a gun with substantially more value. Never want to put too much lipstick on a pig. You don’t want to put 3,000 of work on a 500.00 gun.

Greg: My experience has been in Brooks county around the Encino gate and over on the other side of 77 including the Armstrong. Great quail country. Glad I did not have to reach into my pockets. LOL
