I cannot attest to the veracity of the statements made by the seller. But it is interesting. Presented for those who collect ammo. Is anyone aware of Parker Bros considering making an 18 gauge gun? Cheers Jack

The story seems to be they were made for JMB. After his project someone got a set of 18-gauge barrels made for his Parker to use up the shells.

The Keith Kearcher article on the gun and shells is in The Double Gun Journal, Volume Four, Issue 3, pages 127 to 130.

For anyone who may be interested;
I researched my old e-mails concerning the 18 ga. DHE that started this thread and find that I was mistaken about the Vol. & Issue of DGJ that contains the story on this gun.
It is Volume 4, Issue 3 Autumn 1993
The above is my last post on that thread Dave linked.

Out of simple curiosity, is the asking price remotely realistic? Mind you that’s a mere 800 USD. I’ll put my $ into a shooting iron not ammo:)

The 18 gauge DHE, when it was offered to me, included a full box of the original 18 gauge live shells minus 1 and that vacancy had been filled with an unremarkable 20 gauge shell.
My opinion is that if the one shown for sale is the one missing from the box offered with the gun then it might be worth something, but I don't think that figure would approach $1,000.
I do not recall however, if the shells offered with the gun were 1 3/4" or 2 1/2" but I do think they were UMC.

That’s interesting Dean. Any idea who has that box missing the one shotshell? Maybe Charlie has the missing shell !! Probably tough to prove one had the actual missing shell. Microscopic comparison of marks left in the brass in the manufacturing and loading process. Maybe? Got myself a Trojan at a recent auction for way less than that one shell. Gotta quit accumulating and get rid of some. But then I ask myself why and can’t come up with a good reply. Guess the itis has a better hold on me than Covid ever could. Cheers Jack

We can only presume that the box of shells is still with the DHE. I don't know of a good reason why anyone would separate one from the other.

Enlarging the pic you can see shot size is 7 1/2

Kearcher's article states that the run of 18-gauge shells was done around 1905. They were 2-inch with a payload of 3/4 ounce of #7 1/2 shot. All the shells shown in his article are #7 1/2 pushed by 18-grains of Infallible dense smokeless powder.
In 1905, UMC's NITRO CLUB 20-gauge loads of Infallible in the "standard" 2 1/2 inch shell were Load No. X21 -- 16-grains pushing 3/4 ounce of shot, Load No. X22 -- 16-grains pushing 7/8 ounce of shot and Load No. X23 -- 18-grains pushing 7/8 ounce of shot.

You're sitting on a gold mine Charlie. You better put that baby in a safe deposit box for security reasons.:)

I bought two of the 18 ga shells on ebay for Kearcher years ago. One had the 18 head stamp and the other was stamped 20 ga. The story I was told was that they ran out of the 18 ga stamps and finished the run with 20 ga stamps.
I sold them years ago for much less than the asking price now.
