Today I was sorting through my reloading components and found a bag of PT1044 wads. I must have purchased this bag before finalizing some nice short ten loads using the SP-10 wad. Now that components are in short supply, I am wondering if I can swap the PT1044 for the SP-10. Anyone have any relevant pressure data/insight?

I found very few tested loads using that wad which I believe has been sold with other names in the past; Deci-Max and VP100. I have substituted it for an SP10 with the Fed hull 1 1/8 ox 19 grain Red Dot load without issue. Pressure on that load being 6700 psi leaves some room to make such a deviation in my mind. Dimensions are extremely close to the SP10. I think I had to use just a little bit more filler to get a proper crimp. Worked fine.

I to have switched from one to the other numerous times over the years without any problems. As Pete said, loading shells at low pressures allows one to deviate without worry.

Out of curiosity the PT1044 is the Italian Gualandi wad correct ? I think I might have ordered some , I know I’ve got them for the 8 and 16 .
