Trojan Project

I have an old unstocked Trojan that I picked up about 25 years ago from a friend. I had given it to my dad thinking he would do something with it, but I found that he stuck it in his safe, and it has been sitting there. Well, I have spent several days reading old threads and trying to put together a plan. It is a Parker Trojan 12 Ga., 30 inch barrels, serial no. 164537. (See attached pics... Better ones coming) I bought the gun with no stock attached, but a perfectly good working fore end. The entire gun has been re-blued, but the barrels ring true. One small spot of bluing missing, no rust or pitting on the exterior whatsoever (Although the internals show a need of cleaning up). Action opens easily, but is very solid and tight, and gun fires as it should. Internal safety bar or mechanism missing and has to be replaced. Having no collector value, I am going to turn this into an english stocked upland gun and hunt with it. My intentions are to have it restocked, and the barrels cut to 28 inches by Briley, and add thin walled choke tubes. Anyone here have any experience with a project like this? Looking for a gunsmith who could clean up the internals, replace damaged screws and safety mechanism, and fit a stock. In my opinion you will have WAY to much money in this project for a 12 Gauge Trojan, not to mention the long period of time that it will take to have the work done. If you want to have a Trojan to hunt with I would buy one ready to go. JMHO

To put it into perspective, I entertained a better fitting stock on an LC Smith I once owned, the cost for a hand made stock was north of $6,000. Parker MIGHT be less work with inletting, but I'm guessing you're going to be into this for the price of two or three decent Trojans you can hunt with, especially in 12g. I'll see if others have opinions different from mine.

You might think about keeping your trojan action and barrels for parts that you may need down the road. I agree with all the previous posters regarding the work ( expense ) needed to do as you are planning.

Steve Hodges gave you the best advice. Save the Trojan for parts or sell it here on this site and pick up another Trojan that is complete and fully functional. What you have now is not a family heirloom but a parts gun.

My friend, Chuck, (who Brian just finished some work for on a Repro) custom stocked a VH 12 ga. some years back, with some of the finest wood I have ever seen.
Wood on this level would be well over 2 grand these days, for a gun that's probably worth about $1,500.00
The hunting he has done with this gun just might have justified some of the cost, including his first triple on wild chukar.

Not sure about that..... A Scotch double and the a third bird would be a triple.... or reverse it to a single and a Scotch double.

All Parkers are the SAME On the Inside.

The same design, but not the same fit and finish. I think it was Babe that showed us sample Parker internal parts with the different levels of polish for the different grades at the long ago PGCA get together at the Great Southern Weapons show at Richmond, VA.

As for the OPs issue, there are certainly options for a perfectly suitable restock to make a "shooter" that wouldn't be anywhere near as expensive as a correct restoration restock.
