Many nice guns at Hausmann's, Josh and Brian Hunt had the best offerings in my opinion and not just high dollar examples. My group from Rochester brought home some new toys, Dr. John purchased a very nice 410 Field Ithaca from Brian Hunt, Jeff F bought a Model 21 20ga from August, Louis P bought a nice T-Latch from Josh and I bought a real nice O Grade TLH 8ga 34" from Mike McKinney.
It was a great weekend, I really enjoyed the Parker Annual Meeting, Tom Wooden, Randy Roberts and Mike Franzen did a great job!! A special shoutout to RST for making ammo available. And a big thanks for all the 8 gauge participants, it was big fun.
So what did you bring home???

Sold one and bought a nice DHE 16 GA 28". Been looking for a candidate for addition of my 30" grade 3 orphan barrels and forend for some time now. Gun is currently with Brian Dudley for the transplant and some refresh.

I did not buy any guns. I rarely do. But I bought a LOT of great parts and wood from a few different sources.
And I sold my reworked 20g Repro to a very good friend who liked it and I decided that everything has a price.
His reply to my price was simply “well, I have paid more for lesser guns.” ... I like it!

A Grade 2 top lever 12 with 32” barrels from the Lowensteiner scratch and dent section ! Tuesday night I’ll shoot a round of five stand with it . Few small parts were purchased from Mr. Dudley to get it up to snuff once they arrive here .

I couldn’t make it this year, so I bought a really nice Model 1912 in 2 1/2” 16ga. Field grade, 14 groove with 28” solid rib. Out of the George Cole auction.

I picked up an extremely nice Fox Sterlingworth 20 gauge with ejectors. Committed to it prior and did the deal at Ernie's.
Picked up a very functional MEC 12 gauge Grabber that I committed to prior to the event.
Possibly another Fox in the works that was there.

Jim, here's an extra pic taken for that "22 Shotgun" article I have pending. Shot with a Model 510 Remington smoothbore, same as your gun at 11 yards and with a Federal crimped so-called birdshot shell as you got from me while at HH.

I had a great, but expensive (for me) weekend. Was finally able scratch the SBT itch with a really nice Fox J. And to make it even better I ran into a fellow member with a super high condition Grade 4 Nick. After some groveling on my part I was able to convince him to sell it to me. It is now on its way to me FFL. To top off the trip I hit Josh's tables and made a deal on a very nice Baker straight grip Pargon. May not be considered a highly desirable collector, but it is in very good reconditioned condition, has great dimensions, and perfect chokes for a mid range pheasant gun. And the engraving, in my opinion, is top notch. I think the engraving on Bakers, especially the dogs, is very underrated. Overall, I was a very happy camper and had a smile on my face the whole drive home.

Hi Bob
I apologize if my description of my Nick acquisition was misleading. What I meant is that i was shown a beautiful Nick Grade 4 in the parking lot and was able to beg and plead and finally convince the owner to sell me the gun. A deal was struck, and then the fun began. Long story short, the gun is being shipped to my FFL here in CT and I hope to actually have it in my hands next week. There was no back stage unofficial transfers from one back seat to another. Everything was conducted above board. I will say that my experiences with gun purchases this past weekend has convinced me to look into getting a C&R license. It would have made the whole process a lot easier.

Shot the Grade 2 I got from "The Lowensteiner Collection" tonight , two rounds of 5-stand and a round of skeet . Gun certainly knocks the fire and everything else out of the clay targets when I do my part

Good Morning Dean , Yes ,when it arrives I will do that ! It is coming from Vermont , it was a consignment gun and I got to speak with the consignor " Previous Owner " before purchasing the gun and it has been in his Family since around 1939 or 40 and passed down through until it seems it was time to sell ! The Gentleman said he never remembered anyone that owned the gun ever shooting it even once ! I appears to have quite a bit of condition with one small mark near the end of the left barrel which in the pictures really doesn't look too bad at all ,seems it was put inside a fuzzy soft gun case and the fuzzy stuck to the barrel ! Very anxious to have it in hand to be honest !

Nice looking gun! Looks to be original- What percent of the case still remains?
Russ Jackson
06-19-2021, 10:36 PM
Good evening John , Yes I believe it is all original also and Thank You for the compliment ! I would say a little better than 50 % but it is hard to say really since we weren't around when they were manufactured ! I bought a 12 Gauge VHE years ago which was questionable if it had ever been shot ,I don't believe it had because I bought the gun fro a Grandson who told me his Grandfather ordered the gun and passed away before it arrived and his Grandmother would never let anyone shoot it ! I always base my percentages off of that particular Parker !

I bet that 12 day trip had you on pins and needles waiting for it to arrive. That sure is a beauty. I just had a gun sent from Oregon and it came in 3 days, FedX.
Went to the Washington gun show yesterday with Brett Hoops, and the first table had a Parker Repro A1 Special 20 ga with 2 sets of barrels, original case, etc--think the price was just under $14,000. Other than that, there were some tired old 12 ga Sterlys, a couple Grade 2 12's, but there was a really nice Trojan 12 with 26" barrels for just under a grand. I bought a gun slip and some cleaning supplies.

I am going to post two pics. ,I think the way they finished the checkering on these straight grip Parkers is so nice I thought I would post this ! Also as per request the letter also ! I wish this gun had more info. ,The Gentleman I purchased the gun from gave me alot of info. into the second purchaser which was his " Very Prominent Uncle " and I was hoping for the Original Purchaser information and the seller was going to try and help me out with local info. if we could have known this information !

I don't have much faith in the mail these days. It took almost a month to get two factory letters from Harrisburg to Deep Creek MD(only 2 hours away and certainly not Mr. Bishops fault)) I've had good luck with FedX in getting guns and other items in three days or less. Is the Washington show your talking about in Pa? I've never been to that show but am within a couple hours of distance if its worth attending. I pretty much only attend the Ohio Gun Collectors show now that I have been going to for over 40 years.

I was comparing letters on your VHE-28ga. skeet and my DHE 28 ga. skeet and noticed that my gun has an earlier SN of 238134 and was completed on October 1936 and your gun(238599) was completed in November of 1935. The engraving must have taken longer to complete. Also noticed that they charged $217.30 for a DHE with a single trigger and $129.00 for a VHE with a single trigger. The trap modified forends were alot closer in value as they charged $17.82 for the DHE and $14.85 for your VHE. Other than that my letter reads almost idenical to yours as its a 26" barrel and straight grip as well. I guess most of the Remington Parkers don't list most of the specs like the earlier Parker Guns. My 20 ga. Trojan that was made in 1926 and the letter list: LOP-Drop at heel-chamber length and weight. I wish Remington would have included all this info like Parker did but I guess I shouldn't complain and be glad that all three of my Parkers letter. Also: My DHE doesn't list who the gun was ordered by either although my real late GHE list the company it was ordered by and the date Parker shipped it.

John
The Washington, PA show is held at the county fairgrounds about 3-4 times in normal years. And although it’s been decades since I attended the Ohio Collectors shows, I feel safe in saying it isn’t anywhere near that level for quality of arms displayed/ for sale. Ohio used to be very good. Occasionally something shows up of interest, a few years ago I did find a nice Trojan 20ga at Washington’s show, and this April I came across a P&W 800 28 ga that was discounted enough to lure me in.

Here's the letter for my VHE 28 ga. Skeet gun. There are also great A&F records for it as well.
March 25, 2019
Hello Mr. Romig,
Parker shotgun, serial number 236912, was completed on March 16, 1935. According to the Remington IBM Card Book No. 5, it was a VHE hammerless, 28-gauge with 26” Vulcan Steel barrels and a single trigger. The price listed in the 1935 price list for a VHE grade with single trigger was $129.00
According to Stock Book No. 82, the gun was a VHE 28-gauge on the 00-frame size with a trap modified for-end and a single trigger. The stock configuration was a straight grip. The stock dimensions, chokes, and butt treatment are not listed in the stock book. There was an additional charge of $14.45 for a trap modified for-end. This gun is one of twelve consecutive 28-gauge guns, all configured the same. Six were VHE’s, three were GHE’s and three were DHE’s.
According to the Remington IBM Card Book No. 5, the gun was listed as being one of the guns at Remington Arms on December 9, 1942 to be reconditioned. The gun is listed as a VHE 28-gauge Skeet gun with 26” barrels. The expected sale price was $124.40.
Parker Bros., Remington Arms Company Inc. and others repaired and reconfigured guns as a major part of the gun trade. Over the years, this Parker may have undergone changes to suit its owners, either at the factory or other competent facility. Complete factory return and repair records do not exist therefore our research team cannot comment, report, or have any responsibility for work performed. It is important to note that those Parker records remaining are hand written and show considerable fading from their age. The research committee has done its best to interpret and report our findings in answer to this request and assumes no responsibility for the recorded accuracy or other work completed.
Sincerely,
Chuck Bishop

I think we all know that Parker order books end in 1919 and stock books, IBM cards and A&F records are all that exist after that. Stock books and IBM cards seldom give information about the original purchaser. Sometimes we get lucky, sometimes not. My .410 skeet was purchased from the nephews of the original owner/purchaser, but no Remington or Parker records mention him. I got luckier with my 20 gauge skeet. The gun was purchased from a skeet shooter who was a Remington distributor, better provenance than my .410.
