Last week we were four Parker people chasing brown and rainbow trout on the San Juan River . Tom Wooden, Brian Hornacek , Brett Vana and me . We did well over the four days , usually 10 to 25 fish per day in the 12 to 20 inch range. Small midge nymphs size 24 and light 5 x tippets. I fish bamboo .

A great and successful time. Brett is on his way to Alaska where he is guiding until September.

Tom and Brian are back at work optimizing corporate opportunities , enriching diversity , equity and inclusiveness , and having Zoom meetings while dreaming of trout.

Looks like fun! I haven't been to the SJ for several years. Looks pretty crowded, but looks like the fish didn't care.

The San Juan River in that area is a New Mexico State Park and was closed to non residents for over a year. It just reopened several weeks ago so there was a lot of pent up demand.

Amazing time and great photos! Have never fished the SJ, bucket list item. My bucket list just keeps getting longer...

Mighty nice! My son is really into fishing. Our Jon boat is getting a tune up and we will be in serious business then

That looks like everything I've always heard about the San Juan.

I didn't think guys our age were allowed to have that much fun!

Leaving in a week for a rafting trip down the Colorado river through the Grand Canyon. Starting at Lee’s Ferry and going 277 miles. Taking my fishing rod along as you can fish at the stops along the way.
Great Trout fishing out of Lee’s Ferry so I hope to catch a few. Not really geared towards fishing as they won’t let you troll from the raft .

Sounds like a neat trip.

Unfortunately, I heard of a disaster where a guy who was a total jerk ruined the whole trip for everyone else. Folks couldn't get more than 24 feet away from him, and they were stuck with him for a week. Apparently, he was lucky he was allowed to finish the trip and not left somewhere along the river

Great pictures. I know y'all had a blast. I'm starting to question whether Tom and Brian have real jobs.

Bruce what length and line weight rods are you guys using? Look to be 9 footers?

Brian , Tom and Brett used 9 ft 5 wt rods from Orvis and Sage , 5x tippet . I used an 8 ft Gary Howells bamboo rod in 5 wt . I like 6 x tippet but broke off too many so had to use 5x .
