I wonder what the members think of this gun? Serial #101 back action locks with laminated barrels. I’m not interested but I thought to mention it because it is so early and is stated to have mint bores and is tight. Mint bores seems unlikely but possible I suppose. I had a New Model Army made in 1863 with a mint bore and cylinder that was near full brown on the outside.

They like that gun an awful lot. Their asking price is over twice what the gun realistically would ever be worth. In my opinion.

I have # 97 and like back actions. That does seem pricey with the condition issues. The one thing it has going for it is those laminated steel barrels, most of those back actions had decarbonized steel barrels. If it didn't have such a poorly repaired cracked stock I would consider it. My # 97 is chambered for the 12b cartridge, which is brass shells and black powder. It would be nice to have one in a regular 12 gauge(even with light loads).

If the barrels are shiny and have good wall thickness, that is a nice feature, for sure. That swirling pattern these laminated barrels have is really nice to look at. I prefer straight grips too.

Jay, my S/N 63 Is also chambered for 12b metallic and 14ga paper. My pin separation is 1". Pretty thin walls! What's yours?

Chuck, my 12b is 1" across the pins as well. It is a nice light Lifter. I have 50 brass 12b shells from RMC that just need a little material removed for a perfect fit. Then I would shoot the gun on occasion.
I would definitely and another back action to my collection if I saw one I liked.

Jay, “across the pins” or between pin centers?

My #97 does have laminated steel barrels. And it is 1" between the center of the pins.
