I posted this on the repair thread but thought it might get better attention here:
"How does one go about releasing the top lever on an original Parker. I guess I am dumb and never thought about as mine are always closed and cased or closed and in the rack."

There is a little tab directly below the standing breech. Just push it down with a piece of wood, or other material that will not scratch the metal surface, and the lever should release.

Hold the lever over, push down on the trip and slowly release lever.

Right, but the release tab is easier to trip if you hold the lever far to the right while depressing it.

Thanks Austin, Dave, and Dean I had in fact tried that and I guess I did not apply enough pressure nor did I relieve tension on the top lever.
All is well now in Whoville.....
