I just acquired a 12 gauge reproduction with two sets of barrels. It came in the leather trunk case. Does anyone store their there Parker’s broken down in the case? I am running out of room in the safe (not because I have too many guns, but because the safe is so small 😩).

Any downsides or tips if it is ok to store them that way.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

I wouldn’t store them in that case for any length of time without taking them out on a monthly basis for a wipe-down and re-applying protectant and to leave the empty case open for a day to air out before putting the gun away. Simpler solution... get a bigger safe.

Dean, thanks for the reply and appreciate the advice. I like the way you think

and buy a safe half again as big as you think you need. They tend to fill up 🙂

On the flip side of the coin I have several doubles that are stored continuously in oak and leather, or leg-of-mutton cases, without any ill effects. They are carefully cleaned and wiped down before putting them in the cases, and there's never been an inkling of a problem.

My MX-8 has never spent the night anyplace besides it's leather covered, felt lined case, at least for the 15+ years I've owned it.

Place a gun in one of the above after it's lining has been exposed to moisture, however, and be ready for rusting. FWIW, I feel cases need to be cared for, especially the inside, just like the guns do. Leaving a case open overnight, in a warm, dry place, is a good idea as Dean suggested, if it there's any question that the lining may have been exposed to moisture.

JME, YMMV

Right Stan - a lot depends on what part of the country and the climate there.
