Hello All,

I recently purchased my first Parker a 1904 GH model. I hope you can see from the picture the metal seems tarnished I have it disassembled and ready for cleaning. In your opinions what is the safest way to thoroughly clean the frame and trigger plate. I ask because I'm not sure how gun cleaners like TCE, or brass or steel wire brushes could damage the CCH finish or engravings.
And since this is a Parker I wanted to get the advice from the Parker Collectors.

Thank you in advance for any input.

Scott

Personally I wouldn’t use any abrasive product or any grade of steel wool except for Big 45 Frontier Pads.

A sonic cleaning tank is best for loosening that crud and “tarnish” (patina) along with a solvent for that purpose. I’ve asked my daughtar if I may borrow back my sonic cleaning tank soon... she borrowed it a year ago to clean some jewelry.
When she gets it back to me I have a couple of frames to clean.

Looks like light corrosion/rust to me which would clean up with a Frontier pad and Hoppes don't scrub just lightly go over the surface with the pad soaked in Hoppes. Tarnish is black and can't be removed with a Frontier pad or ultrasonic cleaning believe me I've tried.

I appreciate your responses and tarnish definition. I have Frontier Pads and ultra sonic solution end route.

I could live with that tarnish Bruce.

Be forewarned - remove the stock first so you don’t mess up the stock with harsh solvents and Frontier pads.

Kroil Oil and a Frontier Pad have worked well for me. I would coat the surface of the frame and let it sit for a couple days and then go at it with the frontier pad. That should remove any surface rust for you.

This worked well for me along with the Frontier pad
