View Full Version : Vulcan barrels on 20s

Being a newbie Parker guy, I have been under the impression that Vulcan steel barrels were not built on DHE guns, originally, but that Vulcan steel could be specified if Parker added a set of barrels to a gun, as a cost saving measure, if requested. My DHE 16 has Titanic steel barrels as the gun letters being originally built, but also a set of 20 ga. Vulcan steel barrels, properly numbered to the gun. As mentioned, it was assumed that was done by Parker, for the original owner, as a cost savings measure, at a later time.
But, now I see an apparently originally configured 20 ga. DHE, that just sold at auction, that also has Vulcan barrels. What's the real story about steel "grades" on DHE Parkers?
Thanks in advance.

If a second set of barrels on a Parker, even if numbered to the gun, does not have the 2 stamp and its own forend, it was most probably not done by Parker or Remington.
And “Battle” thinks those barrels are cut...:rotf:

Stan , according to " The Parker Story " there were also 16 D Grade or # 3 Graded Guns that left the factory with Vulcan Steel Barrels and the book says the Serial #'s for these 16 guns fall between Serial Number 82275 and 88725 and all were 12 Gauge with 30" Barrels ! If you don't own a set of " The Parker Story " and you are considering Buying / Collecting Parker's this set of books are the best $300.00 or so that you will spend ! I can assure you these books will save you many many times the price of them maybe even on your first Parker purchase ! I have been messing around with these guns for 20 years and there is hardly a day I don't get one or both of them out to find out information !

Thanks, Edgar. I had overlooked that.

I am learning which books are important to own. Sometimes books have inaccuracies that cause me to question the rest of the book's accuracy. Peter Johnson's book, which I read several years ago, for example. Your assessment of "The Parker Story" helps me determine that it may be one I need. Thank you.

In such a massive undertaking as The Parker Story a few errors sneak in, and there are a number of errata sheets --
