View Full Version : Well this is not going as planned buying a Parker

I took a trip up to Robin Hollow today to trade some stuff in and "look around." My goal was to find an honest, used, original 16 or 12g "field" gun, something I intend to use, not park in a safe. Selected a 28" VH 16 #1 that has a history borne by it's marks (I wish I really knew it's history). The problem was that there was also a 16g Trojan #1 26" barrels in better condition that just kept pulling me back to it. I never even wanted a Trojan, didn't want to look at it, but he handed it to me and said "You're not leaving until you look hard at this gun.'' So I came home with TWO Parkers. Don't know what it was about the Trojan, I couldn't leave it, it just felt too right. I left at 5am in a driving snowstorm, just got back after 11 hours driving. Serial numbers and photos to follow, probably tomorrow morning. I'm whipped and think the disease is now full blown or at least Stage 4. I blame everyone on this forum by the way.

Congrats on the new Parkers, now the bad news, there is no cure to Parkeritis.

Andy, we’ll gladly assume the blame for your infection.
I really like tha Trojans. I’ve had them all. I cut my Parker teeth at about 13 with a Trojan 12, have had three 16’s and thanks to Russ Jackson I’m currently enjoying a very nice 20.
The first step in not allowing Parkeritis to feel like a sickness is to admit you are a victim and just move on and get some more.

I find great satisfaction in reading this Andy, misery loves company possibly. You refer to it as a disease, Mr. Kuss says it's an addiction. Either way welcome to the club.:rotf:

I’m mentally recovering from buying two guns I don’t even need. But when I pick them up all is right with the world. Hope to get photos out tomorrow. I traded 3 unused guns so I’m justifying it that way : )

Andy
Congratulations! Your symptoms were indisputable, you went to the store and acting with thoughts of lessening your exposure you did the responsible thing.

Andy, I have said this before. I have shot other side by sides but there is something about a Parker. It starts when you first touch one and it grows from there. Congrats on your new two new additions and enjoy.

Andy I understand your feelings; I never wanted a Trojan either, but at the time I got my 16 it was the only Parker I could afford, and it's the gun responsible for my one-and-only true double :)! I'm guessing you will love yours...

Trojans tend to be underrated. But they are all Parker for sure. I currently have three. The 16 bore is one of my favorite pheasant guns early in the season. I also use it occasionally for ducks using my Bismuth hand loads with and an ounce of shot. It's a good 35 yard gun and is great for ducks over decoys in the flooded timber swamp I hunt. I never take shots over 35 yards or so with it but that one ounce load at 1200 fps really folds them up if used with restraint.

Let me start by saying I can’t afford B grades and above unless I’m able to steal them (in the figurative sense of course :rolleyes). But every Parker I’ve got is subject to use my two most costly dollar wise have been hunted more than all the others put together . Every quail trip so far this season I’ve carried my VH 28 and Brutus was hauled up plenty trees this year waiting to bowel over some poor unsuspecting deer . Matter of fact it’s in the works to try and get Brutus a gobble bird this spring , well provided my cousin doesn’t back out as he’s the turkey hunter not me . So none of mine I suppose would be considered safe queens in the normal sense , now staying in the safe because they weren’t carried isn’t about worrying about scratching but rather there’s something else I wish to shoot more . And last but surely not least congrats on the new acquisitions !!!!

Congrats Andy, hope you shoot and enjoy them for many years! Be advised, this group is to a man a bad influence. All are afflicted in varying degrees with the malady you have definitely come down with. They will tell you things like "The best way to loose regrets over the purchase of a particular Parker is.......ANOTHER!

Andy, just one more confession. I went to look at a number of doubles, wanting a 20 and bought a really nice Trojan 20 but the regret is that the guy had bought the 20 and a Trojan 16 from the same guy. The 16 got most of the use and it showed and I still regret that I didn't buy it too. I know you can't buy them all but just one more is surely o.k., you did it right and 16's are getting more and more popular. I predict you will never regret owning either of those guns.
