Happy New Year,

I am in need of a picture of both the 1940 and 1949 Remington date code stamps. The date code for 1940 is J and the date code for 1949 is UU. The year is represented by the second digit in the stamp. If you have a gun stamped as such please post a picture.

Here is the XJ (X = December J = 1940) barrel date code on my VHE 16-gauge --

Dave, that must be the production date code as there is no 3 to indicate a repair or service... but you knew that.

Yes. FWIW from my observations it appears that early in the Remington years they put the production date code near the back --

91870

and later it is farther forward adjacent to the cocking hook. Perhaps the difference between Meriden and Ilion?

Date Codes:

DJ3 = Sept. 1940

WF3 = Aug. 1937

XD3 = Dec. 1935
