1874 Lifter 10 High Condition Information Please?

I am new and hope this is the correct place to post. I was curious how rare this early gun is in this condition with Decarbonized steel barrels. 10 Ga 30".

Not a rare gun by any means, but very rare in that condition.

That is how anyone wants to find them.

I had one in 12g. that was similar vintage with twist barrels that was in comparable condition maybe 5 years ago. I regret letting it go all the time. I know where it is, but it would cost me much more if I tried to get it back. You can't keep them all...

Kim, your Parker is a beautiful example of an early Lifter and the decarbonized barrels set it apart as uncommon... the condition puts it in the extremely uncommon category.

Decarbonized steel or "Bessemer process homogenous wrought iron" was sourced from Remington Arms. Pages 503 & 504 of "The Parker Story" state that Parker changed the name to "Plain Steel" as Remington was using the name "Decarbonized" on their newly introduced Model 1873 & 1875/1876 Hammer Lifter doubles.
889 guns were made marked "Decarbonized Steel".
Decarbonized tensile strength is a bit more than pattern welded barrel steel, about the same as AISI 1018 Low Carbon (Mild) Steel, and considerable less than AISI 1040 or modern 4140 chrome moly steel.
The tensile strength could be increased by "cold rolling"; ie. Winchester Standard Ordnance Rolled Steel.

I can understand why the strap is broke on that case if you had all the shells loaded and the gun in it plus the case I would need a two wheel cart. With that said It is kinda a crude looking case ,. Nice gun Kim !

Is it on a #2 or 12 gauge frame? Some of those early 10s were light weight relatively speaking.

I doubt the gun is marked with a frame size, being that early.

Measure in sixteenths of an inch between firing pin centers to get the frame size.

I just thought it looked like a "smaller" 10 gauge. The few early guns I have tend to be on the lighter/smaller size for their gauge, which I like...
