I would love to know and or start a thread about the future. I have given away a 12, 16, and 20 gauge within the last 5 years. Tough to afford on my budget... but i dont care. Also brought on board 3 others to our great endeavor. It is my responsibility to help others understand and appreciate my passion. Our passion. I would like to say that as probably one of the younger members (38) of the PGCA I have been very fortunate to have fellow members sell me and trade me Parkers for what I believe is well under there value to help me with my collection. I can't say enough good things about our membership. Whenever I need help finding things from reloading supplies to gun books, to whatever Parker the group has not let me down. Thank you for a top notch organization and top notch forum. A special thanks to good friend and fellow member Jim Beilke for starting me in this double gun addiction.

Dean, congratulations on your endeavor to share your appreciation of the Parker Gun and effectively all things Parker. Our interest, or should I say ‘passion,’ in collectind and enjoying not just Parkers, but anything and everything associated with these passions, should always be shared and encouraged. You sir are a shining light - a beacon - for all of our various collecting groups.

I encourage anyone who is able, to emulate you in this... especially to bring in younger people to our fold.

I've always been a Fox guy until I started flirting with Parkers on the gun tables at the shows. It wasn't long before I was romanced by Miss Parker. I was finally able to buy a VH16, and then a VH20 from my close friend Dave Miller, who collects and sells. A couple close friends of mine, both PGCA members, Dale Medders and Phil Carr told me my next step was to join the PGCA. I finally did a few years ago, and have never regreted it. I love posting pics and sharing stories of guns and hunts with all of you! I've learned so much from this great forum. I'm restoring a Parker for my brother n law. He's a recent convert to the sxs world, as Ive already hooked him up with a Lefever and a Fox. This will be his first Parker. I plan on bringing him aboard soon, and let him experience all the good that I have from this great organization! He will most definitely be another asset to this fine association.

My Brother has actually done the best job in getting new hunters into the sport. He got two young hunters hooked last year and is working on more this year. It takes work on each one but is very rewarding.

Great post! I think that all that have the ability should gift a Sterlingworth or Trojan to a young hunter should consider doing so. I know from personal experience it works to hook the younger guys on the wonderful world of vintage guns.

I thought I was doing well, Mills. I did everything a father should do for a daughter. I gave her her first SxS, a two bbl set 28ga repro, I send her ammo, all the things a father thinks are the right things. Then, just when I think it's worked, I see a picture on facebook of her, out in South Dakota, hold up a nice rooster in one hand and a au, auto. I can't even say it. A f$*%king autoloder.
I just don't know where I went wrong. She says it's because I borrowed back my DHE16, but she could have at least told me she was going. I would have gotten it back to her. Honest, I would have:crying::crying::crying::crying:

Edgar She obviously has a mind of her own, sounds like my boys come up to help cut wood and shoot some but no one brought a gun, They said they figured ol dad had something they could borrow, I believe between the three of them, I Have given at least a dozen Parkers to them, but we had a great weekend they worked my ass off had some good bourbon and cigars, wife was out of town, just a good weekend with a lot of lies being told, priceless! The only Parker I had ever held was a rusted out beast at Kittery Trading Point in Maine some two decades ago. All I remember is that it was a 12g Trojan and the stock was too short and the barrels too heavy. My reaction was, "Meh..these are not for me.." Fast forward to last year and I bought a 28g Repro online that looked too nice to pass up. It was on the strong recommendation of a friend who used to sell them in his gun shop years ago. After a trigger snafu that Dan May fixed (great guy) I am pretty much in love. Since getting this gun I have not used anything else, I'm that smitten. This is my fifth or sixth "last bird gun" I'll ever need, but now I'm on to another Parker pursuit- a LIGHT 12g Parker original (#1 frame??). High grade is not as important as shootability and solid mechanical condition. My kids don't hunt and I'm not sure what will happen if I have several of these in the future, but there is something to be said for donating them for an auction to benefit a good cause or as a raffle gun. I would be fine with that in the spirit of keeping the marque alive. I'm not on here too often, but everyone here is pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately there's nowhere near me to handle a lot of guns, at least not Parkers. I remember reading an article in bed 45 years ago about "Old Reliable" and I believe it was Field and Stream. I said, "I'm going to have one of these some day." I sure wish I lived next door to Puglisi's!

I am on a lightweight kick myself. Just bought a project GH 20 gauge with 26" barrels.

The 1 frame 12's are great guns and I have a few of those.

Andy, skip the lightweight 12 and look for an "0" frame 16ga with 30" barrels. Nirvana will be at hand. BTW there is no cure for Parkeritis. Let us know when you get past 2 dozen.

I keep hearing this recurring thing about hammer guns and it has me interested. I'll admit to some hesitation with damascus barrels and mostly that's because I don't know anyone to check them out and assure safety. In the meantime I'm very smitten by the 16g in "0" frame size. Hard to find 30" barrels, wonder if the 28" feel as nice. Like I said I live in the Land of the Lost when it comes to gun shops and shows and meets.

28's feel as nice as 30's. As too 16's I once purchased 4 16's from Ivory Beads in Vegas one year. Still miss seeing Jerry every January.

Over the years, I have given away many Parkers to people that deserved them but didn't necessarily have the funds to buy them. In addition, over the last two years, I have given away a PH steel barrel gun in nice original condition, a high condition 16 bore Trojan that was a favorite of mine for wild pheasants, and a benchmark true Parker DHE trap gun with all options.

I have given away four DHE's but the trap gun was the best. It is a true 98% original gun with the only wear on the trigger guard. I gave it to the son of my great friend (deceased) who owns the estate farm I hunt on in Pawling, NY. He shoots trap with me, when he can get away, and I thought he needed a real trap gun. He is very careful not to put his hands on the case colors and vows to keep the gun pristine.

The only thing I asked in return was to remember where they got the gun and not to sell it but to pass it on someday to someone who would appreciate it.

I don't want any of my remaining guns sold but have placed them in my will for people that would appreciate them and pass on the legacy.

Last month I gave a #1 frame top action 12 gauge hammer gun with 30" stub twist barrels and a fish tale lever to a former student of mine who is in his early 30's now. I knew it was something he would not buy for himself.

He has already put a case of RST shells through it and we're working on putting together a Parker "hammer gun" hunt for the two if us. We have always had similar interests and now have one more thing to talk about.

Is there away to "gift" a PGCA membership? I would like do that for him...then he will really be hooked :)
