View Full Version : Gunsmiths in Colorado

As I have kept my gun buying urges in check for over a decade, I no longer know any good double gun smiths on the Front Range - or elsewhere in Colorado for that matter.
George Orndorff did good work...eventually.
Jim Botsford was a prince of a guy, and I truly miss him, especially when I see that empty shed at Kiowa Creek.
And the Dean of gunsmiths, Jack Rowe, well...he was a master.
But, alas none could outlive the guns they kept in service.
David Yale in Yellow Jacket used to do good work, but I don't know about him any more.
For those of you who reside in the Centennial State, who would you trust your Parker to?

Steven,
Steve Bertram west of Boulder works on a lot doubles http://bertramandco.com/index.html. If you used Jack Rowe, you can always send your work to JJ Perodeau https://jjperodeau.com. JJ took over Jack's work.

David Yale moved back East a year or so ago and is now located very near where he left, now in the village of Doe Run, across and northwest of Havre de Grace MD on the Susquehanna river. I discovered that he reportedly had restored a wonderful A.H. Fox 20 gauge AE grade that I purchased several years ago. First rate restoration work and finish to include new stock and forend, case colors and cold rust barrel blue. Now working by appointment only.

A 2nd on Steve Bertram. He helped me out with my A grade 16ga; great work, quick and reasonable.

OK, that's two votes for and one against. What do we do with that?

I don't view Ken's or Kevin's posts as "against" or a negative in any way.

Not this thread, the other one.

"Gunsmith you have used for a Parker" post No. 88 is what I was talking about.
I would love to hear good things about the guy. I need to find a good gunsmith close by.

Steven,
I looked at the post and Mark Vollinger didn't say why he didn't recommend Steve Bertram. You could send Mark a PM to understand the issue. I haven't had an issue using Steve.

I went one better, I called him, and I will take my gun around, to see what he proposes.

Steve was incapable of fitting repro barrels. I showed him the gun, barrels and he assured me he was able to do the work.
$1,500 of labor charges, he reported he was unable to complete the work.
