DHE 20 gage

Ok guys, I am no longer Parkerless and will join right away! I traded my last one, [a repro] last year and had not been able to find what I wanted till yesterday. I bought a DHE 20 gage with some minor issues, [ejectors weak, and buttstock replaced] but good barrels that are not cut and Imp/Mod chokes. I think the gun may have been back to Remington or somebody as they have an old reblue 90% and chokes stamped on the bottom of the barrels near the water table. Also the forend iron is a replacement with a 239,000 serial number. I think it may have come from a higher grade 2 barrel set possibly as the engraving is finer and more of it than I recall a "D" having. Also the checkering pattern is different and much finer LPI than The "D's" I have had. Can anyone tell me about ser #184167? I am going to the shop to measure and inspect everything and get some pix taken. Thanks and Merry Christmas! Lee.

Lee #184167 is not in the serialization book so the gun will have to be judged on its own merits. Pictures will be a good place to start.

Thanks for looking Larry. I do know now the forend is off a AHE. Imagine that!! According to what I find on the serial it is from 1919. I'll keep on digging.

OK guys here is what I know as of now and I need your help to identify some of the markings. (Pictures attatched.) I know it is a #1 frame, chokes are .009 right and .016 left. The barrel walls are .079 Rt. and .082 left at 9" from the breech (2/3 down from the muzzle.) Bores are .618 right and .617 left. The barrels are 28" and appear uncut looking at the muzzles and keel and over a tape measure. The chambers are 3" from what I can see. I borrowed a plug type chamber length gage from someone before I bought the gun and it showed 2 3/4". When I got it home I put my Galazan jacknife gage in it and it showed 3". Thinking the forcing cones had been lengthened I set up a flashlight at the muzzles and put the Galazan gage and a machinist scale up to the shadow line of the end of the chamber. I still got 3". What are the markings 16,T, and circled T, the two dots, and the JG in an oval on the barrel flats. I know the 1 is frame size, the 3-0 is the unstruck weight and assume the small 3 in the corner is the grade. It must have been to somebody for repair as the chokes are stamped on the barrels next to the flats. Parker didn't do this as far as I know. The serial shows 1919 and the forend from an AHE is from about 1935 from what I get of the serial numbers. The stock has been replaced and fortunately, as is the case with many would be stockers they left a lot of wood on the outside although the heading is fine.I think there is enough to make it look as it should. Since my forend is is from an AHE what about doing the stock in the same fluer and checkering pattern? There are a couple of screws that need replaced in the tangs at least and it will probably go to someone for that and re-engraving the screws after the stock is done. The barrels have 95% of an old reblue now and the reciever is a uniform silver that I think I want to leave as is. Thanks to all and Merry Christmas.Lee. ( Pix on another thread)

The small 3 stamp closest to the breech is the grade stamp. It was not done on grade 2 and lower. J.G. in the oval is the stamp of barrel maker Jim Geary and the T in the circle is the stamp for Titanic Steel. I don't know the significance of the two dots but are probably a mark of any of a number of procedures in barrel making, striking, rough-fitting, fine-finish fitting and regulating. The T and 16 have me stumped.
