I have seen this or similar on the ribs of several guns I have looked at. Appears to be a "plug" in the rib. Sometimes the surface matting matches up but a very slight outline is visible, more visible in this photo. What is this? Is it "factory' or something done over the years?
I walked away from a pretty nice GH 16 not long ago, scared of this. Hope I did right, really liked the 16!

The rib extension is held on with solder and also a bind screw. The circle you see is the screw head. Every Parker gun made since the implementation of the dolls head extension (around serial 25,000) has it.
The screw is dressed off flush with the rib and matted over along with the rest of the rib.

Usually they end up being more visible like that if the barrels have been reblued, which is the case here.

Thank you, Gentlemen. Once again my ignorance is exposed! Guess I better try to run the guy with the GH 16 down, hope he still has it.

In most cases when the screw head is visible like the one pictured it is because the barrels have been refinished. Rarely seen on an untouched set of barrels.

A nice demonstration. The Parker D4 barrels were browned and the higher carbon steel screw head colored more darkly
